Megan Tymorek and Sydney Cooley each hit home runs and picked up complete-game wins Saturday as Times No. 3 Chesterton swept Mishawaka 10-1 and 11-3 Saturday in softball action.

Tymorek allowed two hits and had seven strikeouts, while helping her cause in the opener with three RBIs for the Trojans (4-0). Sarah Richards added a double and three RBIs.

Cooley had six strikeouts in her win and added four RBIs in the nightcap. Jill Bohnert added three RBIs, and Megan Matheny had two.

Bishop Noll 16, Merrillville 1 (5 inn.): Kate Richardson struck out five, walked two and threw a one-hitter to lead the Warriors (1-1) to a win over the Pirates.

Monica Martin was 3-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs. Elena Sobilo and Rachel Kubisz had two hits each.

Griffith 4, Boone Grove 2: Sierra Gutierrez tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts to help the Panthers defeat the Wolves. Erica Yost was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Hana Golowitz was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored for Boone.

Hanover Central 4, Munster 3: Tina Zychowski went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in two runs to help give the Wildcats a win.

Munster's Sadie Conner hit 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.

Lowell 2, Valparaiso 0: The Red Devils scored twice on three hits in the fourth inning to defeat the Vikings.

Hobart 9, LaPorte 0: Dana Claussen threw a four-hit shutout and was 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBIs to lead the Brickies past the Slicers.

Teammates Maddy Adams, Brittany Probasco, Paige Talian and Jordan Benton had two hits each. Benton also homered.

South Central 17-3, South Bend Washington 7-0: Madi Walter allowed just three earned runs in a pair of complete-game wins as the Satellites (2-0) began their season by sweeping the Panthers.

Walter was also 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap. Sarah Denham was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the opener, while teammate Stephanie St. Germain was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In the nightcap, Mikayla Eaton was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI. Katelyn Tucker was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored in the opener.

 

Baseball

Kankakee Valley 4, Rensselaer 2: Austin Brewster went 1-for-2 with a two-run single and a walk to help the Kougars defeat the Bombers.

Matt Berdine, Trent Smith and Jack Miles combined to hold Rensselaer to two hits.

Morgan Township 10, Wheeler 2: Freshman Jake Koselke homered and doubled to back Joe Dougherty, who fanned nine in five innings for the Cherokees. Austin Porter and Bo Anderson both notched three hits and two RBIs for Morgan (1-0), while Will Swisher also drove in a pair.

Sam Bolla singled twice for the Bearcats (0-1).

Washington Township 3, Highland 0: Tyler Frye tossed a shutout with nine strikeouts as the host Senators (3-1) defeated the Trojans (1-2). Tyler Byerly was 2-for-3 with a double, while Cory Holderead added two hits.

Merrillville 5, Boone Grove 2: Jon Feliciano pitched six innings with nine strikeouts for the win and added three hits as the Pirates (2-0) defeated the host Wolves (1-1).

Jake Wright had two hits, including a double, for Boone. Calen Narron, Jake Morris and Jason Sawa also had two hits.

Crown Point 10, Elkhart Memorial 2: Alex Nickla just missed hitting for the cycle as he had a single, double and triple in leading the Bulldogs to the win. Nickla also drove in three runs.

Zach Plesac, Ronnie Plesac and Noah Burkholder combined to throw a two-hitter.

The Bulldogs had 12 hits as Jake Jatis, Ronnie Plesac and Glenn Hecht all doubled. Tyler Downing had a triple, and Johnny Lynk homered.

Munster 20, New Haven 1: At the Terre Haute South Braves Bash, the Mustangs jumped all over New Haven, as Mike Mueller hit a three-run home run which was just a small part of the damage.

Munster's Jonathan Azar threw all five innings and struck out six.

Mount Vernon 11, Munster 8: Munster put up enough offense to win the Terre Haute South Braves Bash championship game, but Mount Vernon's bats were too hot for the Mustangs to overcome.

Alex Del Rio went 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Munster (2-1).

West Side 22, Chicago Longwood 14: Paco Jordan hit for the cycle with six RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Cougars (1-1) to a road win. Anthony Cherry and Tequary Scott added doubles, while Charlie Butler had a triple.

Hammond Academy 16, Calumet 15: Tyler Reid singled in Caden Bell with the eventual winning run with two outs in top of seventh to give the Hawks (1-0) a win over the Warriors (0-2).

Brandon Swart had five RBIs, and Cody Glass drove in three runs.

Calumet's TJ Thomas doubled, and Tommy Qualls homered. Kurt Davia had three hits and two RBIs.
