SATURDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Whiting beats Morton in boys hoops
Gio Cruz scored 21 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead Whiting to a 61-54 overtime win against Morton in boys basketball on Saturday.
Whiting's Matt Dvorscak tied the game 46-46 with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Morton (9-7) missed a shot in the closing seconds of regulation. Nick Filipek had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds as the Oilers improved to 11-6. Matt Filipek had 12 points.
Morton's Rayn Elabed had 16 points and Vasha Davis had 15.
Andrean 75, Penn 45: Josh James posted 19 points and 12 rebounds to power the 59ers (14-1) to a victory over the Kingsmen (7-9). Nick Davidson added 16 points and six assists, while Collin Wojcik had 10 points and four steals.
Lake Station 67, Washington Township 53: Demetrius Adams had game highs of 19 points and 15 rebounds as the host Eagles (12-4) defeated the Senators (4-11). Rick Garcia added 13, while Lazar Novakovich had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hebron 61, River Forest 34: The Hawks (15-1) had little trouble in beating the Ingots (5-10) for their 14th consecutive win.
Hebron, which shot 54 percent, got 21 points from Cody Artuso, 15 from Damon Wallace and 11 from Kyle Schmidt.
JJ Pennington notched 14 for River Forest.
South Bend Washington 70, Clark 44: Nate Wilkerson's 15 points led the Pioneers (7-8) in a loss to the Panthers (13-2).
LaRoi Harmon had 12 points, and Jean-Michel Bernateau added 10 points.
Delphi 58, Rensselaer 51 (OT): The Bombers were outscored 11-4 in the overtime as they fell to the Oracles (9-6).
Tanner Cole and Clayton Weishaar had 15 points each for Rensselaer (4-11).
LaPorte 88, South Central 52: Austin Alcorn, Josh Fleming and Gage Ott combined for 68 points as the visiting Slicers (8-9) defeated the Satellites (6-9).
Alcorn scored a game-high 24, while Ott and Fleming added 22 each for LaPorte, which pulled away with a 33-8 third quarter.
Blaine Howell had a team-high 16 for South Central, while Marcus Kammrath added 15.
Westville 73, Oregon-Davis 55: Dan Warnke notched 19 points and Kevin Stone tallied 15 to go with 19 rebounds in the Blackhawks' road victory.
Brian Popp added a dozen points and four assists while Glen Cole snared 10 caroms for Westville (5-8).
North Judson 82, Boone Grove 55: The host Wolves (5-9) combined for seven 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough to get past the Bluejays (14-2). Jon Hogg led Boone Grove with 15 points, Dan Malouhos had 12 and Dean Hill 10.
Kouts 66, Knox 34: Max Everaert had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the visiting Mustangs (12-3) over the Redskins (4-13). Stephen Keller added 14 points.
