LANSING | Ashtyn Kapovich did not have much to say after T.F. South's 19-2, five-inning South Suburban Blue win against District 215 rival T.F. North on Tuesday.

Kapovich did most of her talking with her arm and bat as she struck out seven and threw a one-hitter. She was also 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

"I felt really good and getting those 11 runs (in the first inning) really made me feel comfortable," Kapovich said. "I got a little behind on the first few hitters, but recovered. I just wanted to get the ball over because I know I have good fielders behind me."

It was the first one-hit performance of her career as South improved to 10-14 and 8-9. The Meteors fell to 6-21 and 2-9 respectively.

Kapovich struck out the side in the first and then was a part of an 11-run first inning in which the Rebels sent 16 hitters to the plate. They took advantage of 11 walks.

Back-to-back doubles by Cori Reynolds and Kapovich highlighted the first inning.

"That's what Cori and my job is: to get runners across," Kapovich said.

Reynolds, who is the Rebels catcher, said Kapovich (4-6) had good control.

"She really pitched well," Reynolds said. "She was hitting her spots especially after the first inning."

North scored its runs in the second and Alexis Brown's triple was the Meteors' lone hit.

"That's been the case all year," North coach Martin Quinones said of the walks. "We have inconsistency on the mound and it carries over to our fielders.

"But despite having a rough year, our kids show up every day and try."
