Nikki Steinbach, Andrean
Stats: 25-2, 0.47 ERA, 304 K; .309, 23 RBIs, 16 runs, 4 HR.
Comment: The Times Player of the Year, for the second straight spring, broke a lot of milestones. She got over 300 strikeouts. She threw four no-hitters. But more importantly, the Ball-state bound ace won the 3A title in her third try. It don't get much better than this.
Ashley Dobson, Kankakee Valley
Stats: 12-7, 0.81 ERA, 108 K; .333, 20 RBIs, 6 2B.
Comment: After pitching in the North-South All-Star game, the standout ace will take her game to Tallahassee Community College. In Andrean's run to the Class 3A state title, Dobson was the 59ers' toughest out. A 1-0 loss in sectionals shows what kind of talent Dobson has.
Megan Tymorek, Chesterton
Stats: 17-9, 1.60 ERA, 175 K, 171 IP, .434, 9 HR, 41 RBIs, .788 slugging, .611 OBP.
Comment: The Second Team All-State pick and Duneland Athletic Conference co-MVP was a crucial part of the Trojans' trip to the Class 4A Northern Semistate. She enjoyed another solid season on the mound. Moved to leadoff in the latter part of the season, Tymorek fueled the offense, which included a two-homer performance in the regional win over Lake Central.
Siena Gyure, Crown Point
Stats: 20-3, 1.75 ERA, 90 K, .342, 24 RBIs
Comment: In a tough spring in C.P., Gyure was a rock that kept the Bulldogs from slipping amidst the coaching chaos. Led the 'Dogs to the Twin Lakes Tournament championship and to the sectional championship game where she fell to a hotter pitcher in Tymorek.
Haley Hodges, Portage
Stats: .493, .904 slugging, .565 OBP, 5 HR, 26 RBIs.
Comment: The First Team All-State pick and DAC co-MVP was a dominating force. She struck out just three times all season. On defense, she had a 1,000 fielding percentage and threw out 13-of-22 base runners on steal attempts.
Nikki Adams, Lake Central
Stats: .407, 23 runs, 25 RBIs, 13 2B.
Comment: The North All-Star set the school record for career doubles and had one of the area's most dangerous swings. She hit the ball like it was a 2-iron and those in the field ducked and ran for cover. Led the Indians within one game of state twice in her career.
RaeAnna Jenks, Crown Point
Stats: .370, 30 RBIs, 24 runs.
Comment: Talk about consistency. The three-year starter helped lead the 'Dogs to the top. Could hit for average and/or power. Ran the bases well. Did it all at a very high level. Will be playing for the North All-Stars on Saturday before heading to Purdue. Too bad her playing days are over. One of the best.
Lizzie Seymour, Lake Central
Stats: .416, 36 runs, 23 RBIs, 4 HR, 8 2B, 5 3B.
Comment: If there is any player with D-I written all over her game it is Seymour. Had two walk-off hits at the sectional. Is as good with the glove as she is with the stick. Big-time colleges are surely craving to get this kid on their roster.
Kaitlin Barajas, Andrean
Stats: .467, 33 RBIs, 41 runs, 8 2B, 8 HR.
Comment: First, the North All-Star team. Then, a career at Dominican University. And if that is anything like her numbers at 5959 Broadway look out. There wasn't anything the hitting star for the 3A state champs couldn't smash like a pumpkin.
Taylor Michalski , Munster
Stats: .316, 37 RBIs, 26 runs, .472 OBP.
Comment: How good is this kid? She has already verballed to Boston College. She's that good. Uses great athletic ability with a very good softball skill set. Also played some shortstop for one of the area's top teams. The future's so bright ... shades.
Sadie Conner, Munster
Stats: .349, 27 runs, 16 RBIs, .465 OBP
Comment: If a comet had fallen into the outfield during one of the Mustangs' games, Conner would've caught it. After suffering a tough injury as a ninth-grader, Conner came back strong for the 'Stangs. Like her teammate, the future is very bright.
Kaitlyn Ranieri, Lake Central
Stats: .360, 21 RBIs, 24 runs, 4 2B.
Comment: This is the ultimate career-achievement award. The Valparaiso University-bound center fielder has been one of the region's top hitters for three seasons. The Indians' MVP helped L.C. get to the top of the state rankings and win another sectional.
Angelica Justiniano, Morton
Stats: 17-2, 92 K, 1.81 ERA, .379
Comment: The ace of the region's best feel-good story played a big part in the Govs' school-record 21 wins and first sectional victory in several years. Had great movement and threw to her location very well. This team will be a tough out next year, too. She's back.
Vanessa Hartzell, Bishop Noll
Stats: 15-6, 0.91 ERA, 190 K; .282, 14 RBIs
Comment: The four-year career of this gem was pretty remarkable. Won 59 games with 913 strikeouts. Getting a good swing against the variety of pitches was difficult. A school-record three no-hitters was a result. Will take her game to Aurora College in the fall.
Bridget Boyle, Lake Central
Stats: .395, 29 RBIs, 14 runs, 8 RBIs; 6-1, 1.48 ERA, 47 K.
Comment: While the Indians' season ended sooner than expected, the softball career for Boyle is not over. She will take her game to Illinois-
Chicago next school year and will pitch for the Flames. Was a steady three-year starter for one of the area's and state's top programs.
Morghyn Neal, Andrean
Stats: .376, 40 RBIs, 28 runs, 5 HR, 12 2B.
Comment: This kid won games in two different ways. Both were doubly dangerous. First, she caught Steinbach, which is no easy task. And did it with a calm that few first-year varsity catchers can do. And secondly, she hit the ball with extreme purpose, as her numbers show.
Mollie Lindeman, Hebron
Stats: 9-4, 141 K, 98 IP, 0.79 ERA, .451, 18 extra-base hits, 12 RBIs, .703 slugging, .474 OBP.
Kiley Jones, Portage
Stats: 8-1, 0.66 ERA, 60 K, 74 1/3 IP, .316.
Lily Del Toro, Lake Central
Stats: 8-1, 1.45 ERA, 66 K, 3 shutouts
Shelby Jorgensen, Lake Station
Stats: 15-9, 1.36 ERA, 140 K.
Katie Klopp, Hanover Central
Stats: .402, 12 RBIs, 18 runs, 8 2B.
Hannah Wilson, Hobart
Stats: .318, 15 RBIs, 17 runs, 6 2B.
Savvy Kinsella, Andrean
Stats: .330, 36 runs, 13 RBIs, 12 2B.
Jameka Collins, Michigan City
Stats: .481, 6 HR, 29 RBIs, ..531 OBP, .951 slugging.
Caitlin Acker, Lake Station
Stats: .563, 35 runs, 29 RBIs, 5 HR.
Sydney Cooley, Chesterton
Stats: .360, 6 HR, 28 RBIs, .620 slugging, .470 OBP.
Aspyn Novak, Lake Central
Stats: .426, 25 runs, 13-RBIs.
Sammi Adams, Griffith
.301 avg, 9 outfield assists
Ashley Yoways, Hanover Central
Stats: .407, 22 RBIs, 20 runs; 11-7, 1.31 ERA, 101 K.
Mandey Shrader, Crown Point
Stats: .446, 26 runs, 19 RBIs, 3 HR.
Megan Matheny, Chesterton
Stats: .371, 1 HR, 23 RBIs, .528 OBP, .562 slugging.
