A "south county" flavor in a girls doubleheader and a city school boys doubleheader are on tap in the 12th annual Times Region Roundball Rumble high school basketball showcase.
On Jan. 1 at Valparaiso University, the Times No. 2-ranked Crown Point Bulldogs (9-1) bump heads with the Northridge Raiders (8-1) of former Wheeler coach Doug Springer in the first game. A girls battle between Boone Grove (9-1) and Lowell (8-2) follows.
On Jan. 3 at the Hammond Civic Center, south Hammond bragging rights will be on the line as Morton and Gavit rumble in the opener. The marquee nightcap features a matchup of state-ranked teams in Bishop Noll, the Region's top-ranked Class 2A team, against defending state champion Bowman Academy, the area's top-ranked Class A squad.
Also on tap is the Vincennes University 3-Point Rumble Shootout, a three-point shooting contest featuring players from schools throughout Northwest Indiana. The first two rounds in both the girls and boys competition will be held Jan. 1 at VU, with the championship rounds held at halftime of each game Jan. 3 in Hammond. Varsity coaches who would like to register a shooter for the 3-point contest can email the athlete's information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
