Crown Point can make program history today, while Chesterton may add to its event-win total at the IHSAA girls swimming and diving finals.

Bulldogs sophomore Aly Tetzloff qualified third in the 100-yard fly (54.64) at Friday's prelims at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. She trails top seed Ariana Bullard of Carmel by just 0.48 hundredths. C.P. hasn't won an event at the finals.

"I'm excited for her to be in that position," Crown Point coach Bryon Angerman said of Tetzloff's chances. "Any time you're in a sprint race with about a half second away from the top, you've got a chance. It's a tight race; no one is going to run away with it. Aly has the speed to go out, and we'll just see who's got anything left in the tank for the last 50."

Trojans senior Julia Campbell qualified second in the 500 free (4:55.51) for today's championship heat, just two hundredths behind top-seeded Emily Moser of Fishers. A win would be the first prep state title for Campbell and the 18th overall for the program.

"I think she is set up to make a run," Chesterton coach Kevin Kinel said of Campbell, who broke the school record. "She had a great swim."

The two programs also combined for another eight berths in championship heats.

The Bulldogs are seeded second in the 400 free relay (3:29.34), a full three-plus seconds from top-seeded Carmel. C.P. is also fifth in the 200 free and 200 medley relays. Racheal Bukowski, who was seeded 10th in the prelims, moved up four spots in the 50 free (23.72).

"We had a great sectional, and I didn't know if we would show the poise to go as fast," Angerman said. "There are no seniors. This just doesn't set us up for (today)). It also sets us up for next year."

Chesterton freshman Vanessa Krause qualified fifth in both the 50 free (23.66) and 100 fly (55.7). The Trojans overcame near-miss ninths in the 200 medley and free relays to qualify third in the 400 free relay (3:30.02).

"I thought we ended on a good note," Kinel said. "We got out-touched in a few events, and we need to change that (today)."

Lake Central's Tracilynn Muszalski qualified seventh in the 500 free (4:59.46), and the Indians qualified eighth in the 200 free relay (1:38.4).

Munster sophomore Nikki Smith qualified sixth in the 100 fly (55.93); junior Mary Kate Blocher qualified seventh in the 50 free (23.8) plus the team qualified sixth in the 200 free relay (1:36.83) and seventh in the 400 free relay (3:31.98).

This will be the first individual championship final for the duo.

"It shows their growth; they are definitely more relaxed," Munster coach Matt Pavlovich said. "Nikki was just a freshman last year, and there were some jitters. Mary Beth is in a better frame of mind."
