Marian Catholic's Gaby Rosales and the Homewood-Flossmoor doubles team of Timara Maxwell and Sophia Osabuohien won all their matches Thursday at the IHSA state finals in the northwest suburbs.
Rosales gave up just two points total in her three matches. She Evanston's Jessica Ampel 6-0, 6-2, Mount Zion's Megan Balgemann 6-0, 6-0 and Glenbard West's Caroline Maltby 6-0, 6-0.
She will play Belleville West's Kayleigh Thurwalker today at Hersey High School.
Maxwell and Osabuohien beat York's Randi Wilson and Abigail Kayman 6-0, 6-1, Morton (Ill.) tandem Hannah Bailey and Rachel Scherer 6-2, 6-3 and Lyons Township's Samantha Sherman and Meghan Hckey 6-2, 6-0. Maxwell and Osabuohien will play Highland Park's Nicole Bekrman and Janine Cooper in a fourth-round match today at Buffalo Grove High School.
T.F. South's Bryttish Burts and Homewood-Flossmoor's Allison Lessner both lost their opening matches.
Burts dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Stevenson's Zoe Manion. She came back to win all three of her consolation matches, beating York's Paige Wing, Wheeling's Hannah Blythe and Normal West's Krista Willson. Burts plays Geneva's Kriby Enck at Palatine High School today in a fourth-round consolation match.
Lessner lost 6-2, 6-1 to Benet Academy's Leah Tzakis, but won her three consolation-round matches over Peoria Christian's Elizabeth James, Elgin's Dahlia Keonavongsa and Normal U-High's Christina Su.
Lessner plays Fenwick's Laura Gutierrez today in a fourth-round consolation match at Wheeling High School.
In other singles action, Homewood-Flossmoor's Haeigh Porter won her first two matches against Champaign Centennial's Teresa Boerma (6-0, 6-0) and Highland Park's Casey Frommer (6-1, 6-4) before losing 6-3, 6-1 to De La Salle's Khalia Powell in the third round.
Porter will face Oswego East's Jaiere Harlow in a fourth-round consolation match today at Palatine High School.
Teammates Brittany Henry and Kaela Mack won their first match, then dropped a 6-1 6-2 decision to Naperville Central's Cindy llu and Cass Goldner. They came back to win their first consolation match, then were eliminated 6-1, 6-1 by Prairie Ridge's Anna Kuechenberg and Mikaela McNally.
Illiana Christian's Miranda Bouwer and Hillary Van Drunen lost their two matches.
Homewood-Flossmoor 141, Joliet Twp. 38: The Vikings won every match in taking the SouthWest Suburban Blue dual.
Payton Richardson was a double winner (100 fly, 100 backstroke) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team.
Shannon Jordan (200-yard freestyle), Jamila Jenkins (50 free), Rebecca Tanner (200 IM), Samantha Hall (diving), Samantha Klupchak (100 free) and Kelly Morrissey (500 free) were all individual winners.
Beecher 25-25, Tri-Point 14-18: Kassidy Houlihan's six kills, one ace and two digs helped the Bobcats win.
Vanna Lowe had four kills, seven assists and two aces, while Alysha Basel added 10 digs, three aces and a kill.
Sandburg 25-25, Homewood-Flossmoor 16-21: Mackenzie Reid had seven kills and Skylar Hildebrand had 14 digs, but the Vikings (24-11 overall) lost the Eagles in a SouthWest Suburban Blue match.
