Times No. 1 Chesterton swept Munster in a matchup of top swimming teams in the area Thursday.
On the boys side, the Trojans rolled to a 131-55 victory over the No. 2 Mustangs. Jack Waller (50 free, 100 breast), Ethan Whitaker (100 free, 200 free) and Aaron Whitaker (100 fly, 100 back) all claimed a pair of firsts and contributed to two relay victories as the Chesterton won every swimming event. Sean Cloghessy took the diving (238.25) for Munster.
In the girls meet, the Trojans prevailed over the No. 3 Mustangs, 112.5-73.5. Julia Campbell (200 and 400 free) and Vanessa Krause (50 free, 100 fly) were double winners and helped the 400 free relay to a first for Chesterton. Mary Beth Blocher, Nikki Smith and Emily Wimmer each posted an individual first and swam on two winning relays for Munster.
Boys swimming
Highland 112, Morton 68: Swimming their reserves in most events, the Trojans were still able to defeat the Governors.
Morton's Connor Davidson won the 50 free (22.75) and 100 free (50.1).
Bishop Noll 132, Griffith 92, Clark 74: Double individual winners Robbie Lorenz (200 free, 500 free) and Jake Miller (50 free, 100 back) led the way for the Warriors.
Girls swimming
Griffith 125, Bishop Noll 106, Clark 36: Grffith's Maegan Glass won the 200 free (2:25.98) and 500 free (6:28.78) to help the Panthers win the triangular meet.
Jacque Lelo won the 100 free for Bishop Noll (1:08.15), while Taylor Stahura took the 50 free (34.49) for the Warriors.
Highland 144, Morton 29: The Trojans won every event en route to a rout.
Rensselaer 107, Lowell 76: The Bombers opened with a win in the 200 medley relay and held on for the victory. Lauren Hunter won the 200 IM (2:30.69) and 100 fly (1:09.05) for the Bombers.
Lowell's Mikki Wood took the 50 free (26.98) and 500 free (5:38.14).
Girls basketball
Hobart 67, Bowman Academy 35: Caitlin Leath had 19 points in leading the Times No. 9 Brickies (14-6) past the host Eagles (7-11).
Kankakee Valley 65, North Newton 9: Lauren Stokes scored 13 points to lead the Times No. 5 Kougars (16-3) to the rout. Ashley Norberg added 11 points for K.V., which out-rebounded the Spartans 32-18.
Covenant Christian 57, Kankakee Trinity 15: Calli Beezhold recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots as the Knights (9-11) rolled to an easy victory. Covenant Christian limited Kankakee Trinity to one point in the second half.
Beezhold, who only played a little more than 20 minutes due to early foul trouble, has 137 blocks for season.
Rachel Schurman had 11 points and five assists, and Megan Buiter grabbed 11 rebounds for Covenant Christian.
PCC game rescheduled: The Hanover Central at Boone Grove game, originally scheduled for Thursday, was postponed to Tuesday due to the inclement weather.
The Wolves beat the Wildcats en route to the Porter County Conference tournament championship, taking the Kup from Hanover Central.
The game ends Boone Grove's conference season, while Hanover Central has three games remaining. The Wolves are 4-2 in PCC play, while the Wildcats are 3-1.
Gymnastics
Valparaiso 113.6, Hobart 91.15, Lowell 75.8: Morgan Algozine swept all four events, winning the all-around in 38.85 to lead the Vikings. Algozine posted a 9.8 on vault, 9.75 on floor, 9.7 on beam and 9.6 on bars. Hannah Erwin registered four seconds, including all-around (37.6). Rushelle and Cylie Miller shared second on vault.
