Gavit got a big Great Lakes Athletic Conference volleyball win over rival Morton on Thursday night, 26-24, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20. The win by the Gladiators (16-9, 4-1) brought them even in the league race with the Governors (9-15, 4-1).
Gavit's Vanessa Skierkiewicz had 13 kills and eight digs in the win. Amber Earl had 24 assists and four aces, and Brianna Mangerson added nine kills.
Vonnicia Felder had 31 assists and 13 digs for Morton. Teammate Amanda Colvin had 21 kills and 11 digs.
Bishop Noll 25-25-25, Wheeler 21-10-11: Carly Cappello had 17 kills with 13 digs and Emily Johnson chippped in 17 assists as the Warriors swept the Bearcats in GSSC play.
Asya Hobbs added 11 kills with 12 digs and Brittany Anderson's 11 assists helped Noll (18-5, 6-1).
Hobart 20-25-25-22-15, Lowell 25-21-20-25-9: Geena Lammertin had 29 assists in leading the Brickies to the Northwest Crossroads Conference win. Teammate Zoe Wilson added 15 kills and Jessica Parlock had eight kills and five digs. The Red Devils (10-15) got 25 assists and 10 digs from Mallory Slavis. Hunter Jusevitch had 48 digs, Jordin Page had 14 kills and Riley Schilling added 18 digs.
Lake Central 25-25-25, Michigan City 18-14-23: Megan Maletestinic had 10 kills and Rylee Ollearis added 17 assists for the Indians in the DAC tilt.
Dani Ellis led her team with 14 digs and Ollearis had a team-high six aces.
Chesterton 25-28-25, Portage 15-26-21: Sara Tarnowski had eight kills, six digs and three aces to help the Times No. 9 Trojans sweep the Indians in Duneland Athletic Conference play.
Emily Marcus had seven kills and 15 digs, while teammates Aubrey Nagdeman and Jessica Urycki each added seven kills for the Trojans (13-8, 5-6).
LaPorte 28-25-25-25, Merrillville 30-15-17-21: Riana Todd had 21 assists in the Pirates' tough DAC loss. Jaz Talley added 10 kills while Maya Griffin added 16 digs. Victoria Gaines added seven kills, seven assists and eight digs and Ashley Hansbury had 17 digs.
LaPorte Sectional: Michael Varda won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, helping the host Slicers win the program's 26th sectional title with 3-1 victory over New Prairie. Miles Droege won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Josh Cornwell and Bobby Barden won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Inclement weather suspended the No. 2 doubles match.
The Slicers (15-7) will face South Bend St. Joseph in Tuesday's semifinals of the Portage Regional.
Boone Grove-Marquette match postponed: Heavy rain Thursday made the Boone Grove field unplayable, so the Wolves' match with Marquette was postponed. The game will be played at 4:30 p.m. today.
Valparaiso 2, Highland 1: Ashley Thomas scored twice in leading the Vikings (8-6-2) past the Trojans.
Courtney Carpenter scored the lone goal for Highland (8-7). Kelli Lee made nine saves.
