Kankakee Valley baseball coach Doug Greenlee earned his 500th career victory Thursday as the Kougars routed West Central 17-3.
"I've been very fortunate to have been doing this for a very long time," said Greenlee, who is in his 28th year as a head coach, 25 of them spent at K.V. "It's a passion of mine. You appreciate the kids and the help you get from the assistants (coaches). The kids were excited about it. It's been a good run, a fun run."
The Kougars (7-11) pounded out 21 hits in the game and scored runs in all but the fifth and seventh innings.
Jack Miles got the win for K.V. and held West Central to four hits.
Andrean 13, Clark 0 (5 inn): Matt DeSomer drove in three runs, while Brandon Barnes knocked in two runs for the Times No. 1 59ers (18-0) in the win. Jim Tarala struck out nine in the complete-game win.
Clark (5-9) got its lone hit from Matt Koch.
Hanover Central 12, LaCrosse 1 (5 inn.): Nick Myskowski had two doubles, an RBI and a run scored as the No. 6 Wildcats defeated the visiting Tigers in Porter County Conference play. Tyler Scott added a double, triple, two runs scored and an RBI; Riley Welch was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Evan Garthus was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Lake Station 11, Westville 5: Tyler Ramirez and Matt Forsythe led the Eagles (8-8) with three RBIs apiece in the win.
Nate Handley drove in two runs to lead the Blackhawks.
Portage 6, Lowell 0: Jacob Bearss tossed five innings of one-hit ball and knocked in two runs to lead the Indians (13-7) over the Red Devils. Bearss, Eric Mesarch and Kevin Jones all had two hits for Portage.
Crown Point 8, Valparaiso 3 (8 inn.): The No. 2 Bulldogs (12-3, 8-1) took advantage of seven Vikings errors to score five unearned runs in a Duneland Athletic Conference win. Alex Nickla was 3-for-5 with a run scored, and Ron Plesac was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Valparaiso's Sam Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Washington Township 9, Hebron 5: The Senators (12-2, 5-1) were outhit 10-4, but took advantage of seven walks while issuing no bases on balls in a PCC win. Winning pitcher Chase Peiffer drove in three runs, while Cody Goodan batted in two. Kyle Joyce (two RBIs) and Bryce Hanaway each singled and doubled for Hebron (7-6, 3-3).
Wheeler 20, Calumet 1: The Bearcats hung a 14 on the Warriors in the third inning to roll to a Greater South Shore Conference victory. Tyler Crussen's four hits included two doubles. C.J. Wodetzki went 3-for-3, plating three runs along with Matt Pappas, Jake Lafever and Austin Whitaker. Sam Bolla was 3-for-5. Wheeler's 23 hits included six doubles.
Munster 10, E.C. Central 1: Trace McCarthy went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs to lead the Mustangs (13-5) to a home win. Nick Marlow had three RBIs. Ryan Yates and Connor Manous each had two hits in the win over the Cardinals (1-14).
Portage 12, Valparaiso 3: The No. 2 Indians (14-3, 9-3) scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away in DAC action against the Vikings. Haley Hodges was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; Lauren Murray was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Rachel Ortiz-Zabloudil was 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and three steals. Heather Zengler went the distance with five strikeouts.
Molly Grant was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for Valpo.
Hanover Central 16, LaCrosse 6 (5 inn.): Ivy Dawson was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs as the Wildcats (10-5, 6-0) remained unbeaten in the PCC. Abby Thompson had two doubles and two RBIs.
LaCrosse’s Caitlin Anson had a home run and three RBIs, while teammate Taylor Guse also homered.
Wheeler 10-12, Calumet 0-0: Nickole Finch (6-3) allowed two hits and fanned 18 over eight innings, picking up both wins in a GSSC sweep for the Bearcats (8-5, 7-3). Finch was 2-for-3 with a double in the nightcap, while Amber McGinley was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in the opener.
Hebron 6, North Newton 0: Maggie Lindeman (8-3) went the distance with 10 strikeouts as the Hawks (8-3) shut out the Spartans (7-6).
Westville 3, Morgan Township 2: The visiting Blackhawks (9-3) scored three runs in the second inning and held on to defeat the Cherokees (9-6). Katie Piotrowski was 2-for-3 with a double, while teammate Krysten Wilson tripled. Beth Piotrowski allowed seven hits to pick up the complete-game win.
Kankakee Valley 6, Highland 2: Times No. 8 K.V. (12-5, 6-5) picked up a Northwest Crossroads Conference home win as Alyssa Matson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sydney Pumnea and Maribeth Strong each had two hits for the Kougars.
The Trojans were led by Sam Tedesco's two hits.
Bishop Noll 10, Lake Station 3: The Times No. 7 Warriors got a GSSC win as Elena Sobilo tripled, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Andie Fremouw and Jade Acevedo each doubled for Noll, and Rachel Sherbondy tripled.
Crown Point 4, Lake Central 1: Amber Haworth got a shutout win at No. 1 singles to lead the Times No. 5 Bulldogs (5-2, 2-1) to a DAC victory over No. 7 Lake Central.
Munster 5, Griffith 0: The No. 1 Mustangs (8-1, 4-0) swept every match, including 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins by Melissa Tepperman and Kasey Kulesa at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, to win the NCC contest.
Valparaiso 5, LaPorte 0: Kelly Kennedy (No. 2 singles), and Rachel Crookston and Kate Spencer (No. 2 doubles) dropped just a single game in their wins, leading the No. 4 Vikings to a DAC sweep over the No. 9 Slicers.
Michigan City 4, Portage 1: The No. 6 Wolves (7-2, 2-1) won all three singles matches in straight sets to defeat the No. 8 Indians in DAC play.
Bailey Lauritzen and Lauren Pick picked up Portage's lone point at No. 1 doubles.
Chesterton 5, Merrillville 0: Meg Modesto (No. 1 singles) and Margaret Shinn (No. 2) each won 6-0, 6-0, leading the No. 2 Trojans (8-0, 5-0) to the DAC sweep.
