Lake Central senior Mike Miklusak has signed to play college basketball at Western Illinois.
The 6-foot-5 swing player averaged 12 points and 5.1 rebounds for the Indians last season.
Leathernecks coach Jim Molinari spoke highly of his new signee.
"Mike is the type of young man you want to bring in to help your program get to the next level," Molinari said in a media release. "He has to become stronger and work on facets of the game, but he has the character to make those improvements.
"In the meantime, he will provide immediate help in the area of 3-point shooting, which we felt was something our roster needed."
Miklusak was a Times Second-Team All-Area performer.
Hammond's Hamilton headed to SSC: Hammond senior guard Levon Hamilton has signed to play at South Suburban College. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 19.8 points and 3.6 assists a game.
Hamilton led the Wildcats to two sectional championship games and was a Times Second-Team All-Area selection.
Weather postpones sectional, regional play: Thursday's heavy rains forced the postponement of games to today at area sectional baseball and softball sites as well as the Valparaiso boys track regional.
The track regional takes place at 5:30 p.m. today
Four baseball sectionals have been altered. In Class 4A, host Munster faces Highland at 5 p.m. At LaPorte, Valparaiso and Portage meet at 5, while Michigan City and Merrillville play at 7:30. In Class 2A, North Judson and Winamac play at 5 at Boone Grove. In Class A, Covenant Christian and LaCrosse meet at 4:45 at Washington Township.
Three softball sectional schedules have been changed. In Class 4A, Morton plays Munster at 4 p.m. and Lowell follows against E.C. Central at Highland. At Crown Point, Portage faces the host Bulldogs at 4:30, while Hobart and Valparaiso follow. Both championship are set for 11 a.m. Saturday. In Class A, the South Central championship between Westville and Triton is at 4:30 p.m. today.
Portage spring athletic banquet June 5: Portage High School's spring athletic banquet will begin at 6 p.m. June 5 in the East auditorium.
Portage sports physicals offered June 3-4: Sports physicals for Portage High School athletes will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 and 4 in the main gym. Cost is $20. A completed physical form must be turned in prior to the first day of practice next season.
