Lauren Stokes had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds to help Times No. 5 Kankakee Valley defeat North Judson 60-47 in girls basketball action Thursday.
Ashley Norberg had a team-high 18 points for the Kougars (10-3), while Bethany Jansma added 12 points and Breanna Toppen 10.
Covenant Christian 54, River Forest 40: Cali Beezhold recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 14 blocked shots to lead the Knights (6-7) over the Ingots (1-11). Rachel Schurman added 14 points for Covenant Christian.
Jessica Serrano led River Forest with 11 points.
Rensselaer 55, Kouts 36: Emily Tonner scored 17 points and made seven steals to pace the Bombers (9-3) past the Fillies. Emilie Ziese posted 12 rebounds and six assists for Rensselaer.
Jayla Crump notched 11 points and six boards for Kouts (6-7).
Boys Basketball
Highland 50, Clark 45: Tommy Brankin hit four consecutive 3-pointers to spark a 14-2 Highland run midway through the fourth quarter, and the Trojans held on for the win. Brankin ended with 19 points for the Trojans (3-8).
La'Roi Harmon had a game-high 21 points for Clark (3-6), which shot 4-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Boys Swimming
Lake Central 116, Michigan City 69: Connor Homans took the 50 free (23.19) and 100 back (57.97) to help the Indians earn a Duneland Athletic Conference win. Homans also helped the Indians win the 200 medley relay (1:45.36).
For Michigan City, Matt Quinlan won the 200 I.M. (2:02.36), 100 free (49.30) and helped the Wolves capture the 400 free relay (3:25.50).
Rensselaer 136, Benton Central 34: The Bombers swept every event en route to the easy Hoosier Conference win.
Jaydon Steele-Koczan and John Urbano took part in four event wins. Steele-Koczan won the 50 free (24.28), 100 free (53.27) and swam winning legs with Urbano on both the 200 free relay (1:39.97) and 400 free relay (3:45.99).
Individually, Urbano won the 200 I.M. (2:18.24) and 100 fly (1:00.34).
Girls Swimming
Lake Central 147, Michigan City 39: The Indians swept every event to cruise to a DAC win.
Traci Muszalski was a four-event winner for Lake Central, taking the 200 I.M. (2:14.26), 100 back (1:01.65) and swimming winning legs on the 200 free relay (1:44.41) and 400 free relay (3:49.21).
Teammate Holly Spears took the 200 free (2:01.93), 100 fly (1:00.79), swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:53.30) and joined Muszalski on the 400 free relay.
Gymnastics
Valparaiso state runner-up squad to be honored today: Valparaiso's state runner-up gymnastics team will be honored today before the beginning of Vikings' boys basketball game with Michigan City at 7:30 p.m.
The gymnasts completed an undefeated dual meet season and won conference, sectional, and regional titles en route to a second-place place finish at the state meet last year. Members of the team honored include Allyson Kraft, Allie Lazerwitz, Katelyn McBride, Morgan Algozine, Emily Crosmer, Hannah Erwin, Tayla Kobitz, Amanda McDonald, Heather Novak, Emily Ball, Kim Clausen, Emily Lynch, Julia Manion, Cylie Miller, Rushelle Miller and Hanna Wilson.
