Matt Mudd took medalist honors with a 2-under-par 34 as Times No. 4 Crown Point upset No. 1 Valparaiso in a Duneland Athletic Conference boys triangular at Michigan City's Municipal Golf Course.

The Bulldogs edged the Vikings 152-156, while the host No. 8 Wolves finished at 166. Mike Lee added a 37 for the Bulldogs (8-3, 7-2).

Bobby Jacobs led Valparaiso (18-1, 10-1) with a 36. Ryan Brinckman and Aaron Skibinski paced Michigan City (6-9, 3-8) with 39s.

Kankakee Valley 168, West Central 231: Ryan Beere led the Kougars with a 37 in a win at Moss Creek.

Skyler Davis (41), Eric Vorst (43) and Josh Whitaker (47) rounded out K.V.'s scores.

Munster 154, Hanover Central 163: AJ Gauthier carded a 1-under-par 34 to lead the No. 2 Mustangs (10-0) to victory at South Shore Country Club. Teammate Ronak Tilva turned in a 36.

Josh Jackowski led the Wildcats (4-5) with a 37.

 

Baseball

Bishop Noll 16, River Forest 0: Nick Thrasher tossed five innings of three-hit ball as the Warriors (20-2, 13-0) extended their winning streak to 19 and remained perfect in the GSSC.

Chad Mateja knocked in three runs, while Tony Cobb plated two and scored three for Noll, which has won or shared the conference title every year dating back to its inception in 2008. Danny Pobereyko and Matt Sandoval each picked up two RBIs.

Griffith 5, Lowell 1: Jesse Smith pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits with 10 strikeouts, in the Panthers' Northwest Crossroads Conference win over the Red Devils (9-13, 2-10). Smith also drove in two runs for Griffith (11-9, 7-5).

Kankakee Valley 5, E.C. Central 0: Andrew Jackson pitched a complete game and allowed one hit with six strikeouts in the K.V. win. Anthony Clendenen drove in two runs to lead the Kougars' offense.

Lake Central 4, LaPorte 3: Ryan Burvan, Brad Staszewski and Steve Fulk each had two hits as the No. 5 Indians edged the Slicers (8-19, 1-12) in DAC play. Chuck Alexa tossed 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief to pick up the win.

Mike Eldridge had two RBIs for LaPorte.

Boone Grove 15, North Judson 1 (5 inn.): Dean Hill had a two-run triple and sacrifice fly to lead the No. 10 Wolves (16-4) over the Bluejays. Caleb Narron and Jake Gholston also tripled for Boone, while teammates Austin Rhoda and Jake Wright added doubles.

Washington Township 21, Gavit 0 (5 inn.): Jake Goodan pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the Senators. Goodan narrowly missed a perfect game, but he walked one batter and hit another. Bob Ross drilled two home runs for the Senators, ending the game with six RBIs. Tyler Byerly drove in four runs and scored five times, while Justin Landgrebe had three RBIs.

 

Softball

Lake Station 13, Gavit 0 (5 inn.): Shelby Jorgensen shut down Gavit, pitching five innings of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts. Caitlin Acker went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Eagles.

Munster 8, Valparaiso 0: Carly Murphy pitched a complete game no-hitter and struck out 13 batters to lead the No. 5 Mustangs to the win.

Gina Rice went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Westville 23, North Judson 4 (5 inn.): Michaela Shrader was 4-for-5 with a double and triple to lead the visiting Blackhawks to the win. Katie Piotrowski was 3-for-5 with an RBI and went the distance with four strikeouts. McKenzie Gardner and Shaina Jacks added three hits each, while Beth Piotrowski and Danielle Bennette each doubled.

 

Girls tennis

Michigan City 3, Highland 2: Carol Stuetz (No. 2 singles) and Megan Methner (No. 3) each won 6-1, 6-0 to lead the No. 6 Wolves (11-4) over the No. 5 Trojans.

Vany Madrigal won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for Highland.
