Playing only its second game since the holiday break, Hammond took a 21-9 lead after one quarter and held off a third-quarter run from Times No. 5 21st Century to win 71-66 Tuesday.
Aaron Haggard scored a game-high 21 points and had three steals; Antonio Poole had 16 points and six assists, and DeAnte Rias pulled down nine rebounds for Hammond (7-5).
Eugene German paced 21st Century (6-2) with 18 points, which included three 3-pointers.
Chesterton 43, Hobart 39: Caroline Puntillo stemmed a Hobart fourth-quarter rally with a pair of last-second free throws, leading Chesterton to a win over the Times No. 8 Brickies. Puntillo scored a game-high 23 points for the Trojans (8-7).
Zoe Wilson led the Brickies with 12 points. Hobart outscored Chesterton 20-9 in the fourth.
West Side 76, Lowell 54: Dana Evans poured in 33 points to lead the Times No. 3 Cougars to the rout.
Hunter Jusevitch led the Red Devils with 16 points.
Griffith 40, Gavit 11: Jasmine Alvarez led the Panthers with 13 points in the lopsided win. Taylor Strauch added 11 points for Griffith, while Talia Roldan scored 10.
Kankakee Valley 68, Hebron 35: Bethany Jansma led four players in double figures with 14 points as the Kougars defeated the Hawks. Lauren Stokes and Breanna Toppen each added 12 points, while Ashley Norberg had 11.
Lauren Carlson and Madison Bell each had eight for Hebron.
Portage 49, Andrean 40: Alexis Johnson had a game-high 17 points to lead the Indians (8-7) over the 59ers. Kaitlyn Steers added 13 points.
Haley Hrosik had 15 points for Andrean.
South Central 72, Westville 20: Jill Rosenbaum scored a game-high 30 points and added 17 rebounds as the Satellites (7-6, 4-0) remained in a first-place tie with Morgan Township in the Porter County Conference.
Mary Parkman led the Blackhawks (0-13, 0-6) with eight points.
Kouts 50, LaCrosse 26: Jayla Crump scored a game-high 20 points as the Fillies (8-4, 4-2) defeated the Tigers (5-7, 1-3) in PCC play. Bella Wireman added 14 points.
Crown Point 101.775, LaPorte 95.85: Natalie Groff finished with an all-around score of 35.15 to lead the Bulldogs to a Duneland Athletic Conference win. C.P.'s Hannah Best won the floor (9.55) and vault (8.85). LaPorte's Melanie Smith won bars (8.6) while Marissa Hill won the beam (9.075).
Chesterton 103.8, Hobart 86.25: Brandi Tuzinski won bars (8.9) and floor (9.5), leading the Trojans past the Brickies.
Individual gymnast Kylee Maxwell of Morgan Township won all-around (37.45), beam (99.65) and vault (9.7).
Hobart’s Morgan Godspadarek was sixth in the all-around (28.65).
Portage 104.9, Lake Central 95.5: Madison Kurtz won all-around (36.275), beam (8.85) and bars (8.85) to help lead host Portage to a DAC win. Danielle Solis won vault (9.35) and floor (9.6).
Amaris Gallegos led Lake Central, finishing fourth in all-around (31.55).
Valparaiso 97, Portage 89: Isaiah Parrish (100 and 200 free), Darian Low (200 IM, 100 back) and Andrew Antonetti (100 breast, 100 fly) each won two individual events as the No. 6 Vikings upended the No. 5 Indians in DAC action.
John Fannin (diving) and Pat Sobkowski (400 free) won for Portage.
Kankakee Valley 104, Lowell 82: Kristian Cullings won the 50 free (23.92), 100 free (54.58) and took part in the winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay to give the Kougars a Northwest Crossroads Conference win.
Tyler Morgan won the 200 free (2:01.42) and 100 fly (57.77) for Lowell.
Rensselaer 129, Knox 40: Parker Balvich captured the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke as the Bombers dominated Knox.
Chesterton 123, Lake Central 49: Blake Pieroni won the 100 free (45.23), 200 free (1:39.57) and took part in the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay for Times No. 1 Chesterton.
Lake Central's Drake Hunt won diving (254.20).
Rensselaer 133, Knox 23: Sydney Dobson won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was joined by individual double winner Lauren Powell (200 IM, 100 fly) in the Bombers' rout.
Chesterton 127, Lake Central 59: Times No. 3 Chesterton's Vanessa Krause took part in four winning events, including the 50 free (23.82).
Hannah Leyba won diving (238.05) for the Indians' lone victory.
Valparaiso 114, Portage 72: Erin Delahunty won the 100 and 200 free for the No. 5 Vikings, who defeated the No 8 Indians in DAC action.

Konieczny named player of the week: LaPorte freshman Nicole Konieczny has been named the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway Player of the Week for last week.
Konieczny, a 5-foot-7 guard, scored 25 points to lead LaPorte (13-0) to a crucial 61-57 Duneland Athletic Conference win over Lake Central. Koniecnzy hit four 3-pointers and made 9 of 10 free throws to go with four rebounds.
Other local District 1 nominees included Calli Beezhold (Covenant Christian), Jordan Cole (Munster), Victoria Gaines (Merrillville), Michal Miller (Michigan City), Riley Popplewell (South Central), Taylor Steele (Highland) and Tara Zlotkowski (Lake Central).
Boys nominees were Jake Bekelya (Kouts), Kyle Gooch (Lake Station) and Keenan Simmons (Michigan City).
