Munster's Rachael Jones carded a 42 to lead the Mustangs to a 181 team score and a Northwest Crossroads Crossroads Conference girls golf win Tuesday.
K.V., which finished second with 181 strokes due to the fifth golfer tiebreaker, was led by Tara Beere's 42.
Megan Kaminski posted a 52 to lead Andrean. The 59ers finished third with 231 strokes.
Crown Point 174, Merrillville 251: Alyssa Harvey carded a 40 to lead the Bulldogs to a Duneland Athletic Conference win at Youche Country Club. Emily Harvey shot 44, while Tiffany Curtis and Jackie VanDerWey both carded a 45.
Maggie Connelly posted a 42 to lead the Pirates.
Crown Point 25-25-25, Highland 18-20-13: Alyssa Kvarta's 11 kills, five aces, six digs and 18 assists led the Bulldogs to a win over the Trojans. Courtney Covaciu had seven kills and five digs.
Highland's Brittany Fowler had 10 assists.
Kankakee Valley 25-25-25, Argos 11-15-11: The Kougars got 10 aces and seven kills from Gab Martin in their season-opening win. Lauren Stokes had 10 assists.
Portage 25-25-23-25, Hobart 22-20-25-19: Mariah Wright's 14 kills led the Indians past the Brickies. Lauren Winicky set 33 assists.
Hebron 25-25-25, Rensselaer 11-23-21: Lauren Carlson notched seven kills and four solo blocks to pace the Hawks past the Bombers. Natalie Kaczmarski registered 18 assists, and Morgan Morrow came up with nine digs for Hebron.
Aimee Mattocks posted seven kills, while Jordyn Spangler tallied four aces and 38 assists for Rensselaer.
Valparaiso 25-25-25, North Judson 11-13-11: Noelle Eveland led with 11 kills as Times No. 2 Valparaiso swept North Judson in the Vikings' opener. Rachel Bontrager added eight kills. onroe Olsen and Dani Suiter each had 15 assists, while Anna Walls had 12 digs.
Boys cross country
Kankakee Valley Hokum-Karem: Morgan Township's Ben Savage and Logan Redmon ran a combined 10K time of 35 minutes, 20 seconds to win the relay.
Hebron's Ryan Witt and Scott Crowley were second (36:03), while K.V.'s Travis Conley and Andrew Schultheis finished third (36:42).
Girls cross country
Kankakee Valley Hokum-Karem: Hebron sisters Lexie Schatz and Payton Schatz ran a combined 10K time of 42:19 to win the relay.
Brittany Stepp and Kaylin Orsburn finished second for K.V. (43:13), while Kougars Brittany Kent and Allison Rockley placed third with a 43:35.
Andrean 3, Bishop Noll 2: The 59ers swept the singles in beating the Warriors at Whiting Park. Anthony Zaleski, Michael Kinasiewicz and Jake Brown won in singles.
Bishop Noll got wins from the teams of Spencer Hickey and John Paul Kotso, and Cesar Montemayor and Fabian Duran.
Chesterton 4, Highland 1: The Times No. 3 Trojans (1-0) easily rolled to a win over No. 9 Highland (0-1) behind the strength of a doubles sweep. Johny Mario and Zac Nabhan won at No. 1 and No 3 singles.
Highland's Nick Polster beat Dylan Jayasuriya, who had to retire in No. 2 singles due to cramps.
Portage 5, Hobart 0: John Fannin won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to help the No. 8 Indians sweep the Brickies (0-1).
Wheeler 3, Griffith 2: The Bearcats (1-1) swept doubles play to edge the Panthers (0-1). Dimitri Pecoski and Austin Greiner (No. 1) won 6-2, 6-3, while Dru Carrigan and Drew Simatovich (No. 2) rallied for 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
Portage offers ticket plans: Portage is selling yearly passes for $125 and punch passes for $40. The yearly pass is good for all regular-season home events. The punch pass is good for 10 admissions to regular-season home events, to be used as the buyer wishes. Single-event tickets are $6, $5 for freshman events. The passes can be purchased in the athletic office.
Record achieved for athletic participation: The National Federation of State High School Associations recently reported a record 7,713,577 participants competed in high school sports last season. The number is by 21,057, an increased for the 24th consecutive year.
