Lauren Stokes set a career assist record at Kankakee Valley with 2,454 as the Kougars beat Griffith 25-16, 27-25, 14-25 and 25-16 in girls volleyball Tuesday night.

Stokes had 45 assists in the match. Gab Martin had 23 kills and 21 digs. Lexi Eggert added 14 digs, while Danielle Ruesken added 13 kills and seven blocks.

Griffith's Shanea White, Hannah Miller and Lisette Roldan each had 16 digs.

Lake Station 25-21-19-25-15, Whiting 18-25-25-18-11: Desiree Parillo and Joanna Dwyer had 12 kills each as the Eagles (5-8, 2-2) beat the Times No. 10 Oilers (11-5, 1-4). Tristan Majka had 24 assists.

Whiting's Bri Blackwell had 12 kills, while Courtney Blackwell had four aces and 30 assists. Alex Donielides had 12 kills.

Chesterton 25-25-25, Merrillville 21-16-21: Jessica Urycki had seven attack kills and two block kills to lead the No. 6 Trojans (9-4, 3-3) to a Duneland Athletic Conference win over the Pirates.

Valparaiso 25-25-26, Portage 15-19-24: Noelle Eveland had eight kills and eight digs to lead the No. 2 Vikings (9-5, 6-0) to a DAC sweep over the Indians. Rachel Bontrager added seven kills, while Kate Bontrager had six kills and eight digs.

Portage (6-8, 0-6) was led by Josi Auksel, who had a school-record eight block kills and four attack kills. Abby Alexander had 14 digs.

South Central 25-29-25-25, West Central 15-25-20-10: Bri Satoski had 19 kills to lead the Satellites (12-2) over the Trojans. Kaitlyn Jackson added four nine kills, 11 digs and four aces, while teammate Riley Popplewell had six kills and nine digs.

Chesterton 25-25-25, Merrillville 21-16-21: Jessica Urycki had seven attack kills and two block kills to lead the No. 6 Trojans (9-4, 3-3) to a Duneland Athletic Conference win over the Pirates. Sammi Ostrom added five attack kills and three block kills.

 

Boys soccer

Boone Grove 7, Hanover Central 0: Andrew Ooms and Nick Azevedo each had two goals as Times No. 6 Boone Grove defeated Hanover Central in Northwest Indiana Soccer Conference play.

Nathan Miller made four saves to earn the shutout for the Wolves (7-2, 4-0).

Hebron 12, Oregon-Davis 2: Richard Botts had four goals and two assists, as the Hawks crushed the Bobcats. Nicholas Surber added a hat trick and an assist; Grant Morrow had two goals and two assists; Justin Deslauries scored twice, and Denis Mijatovic had a goal and four assists.

 

Girls soccer

Boone Grove 7, Hanover Central 2: Olivia McCafferty and Emily Martinez each had hat tricks and an assist in an NISC win for the host Wolves (6-3, 3-1).

Carrie Johnston and Abby Gasior scored for the Wildcats (5-3, 3-2).

Washington Township 1, E.C. Central 0: Hearther Burton scored the game’s lone goal. Corie O’Connor earned the shutout with 12 saves.

 

Boys cross country

Munster 16, Highland 44: Ryan Kritzer, Tom Bolanowski, Emmanuell Lopez and Jimmy Murphy were the top finishers for the Mustangs, while Highland's Mike Kristy placed fifth.

Hobart 18, Kankakee Valley 37; Hobart 15, Griffith INC.; Kankakee Valley 15, Griffith INC.: The Brickies took the top four places, with Alek Seeley, John Petrosky, Brent Dunn and Collin Allen leading the way.

K.V.'s Travis Conley finished fifth.

Crown Point 23, Lake Central 32; Crown Point 24, Portage 31; Portage 25, Lake Central 32: Tyler Gray finished first to lead the Bulldogs to two DAC victories.

Lake Central's Zach Hupp was second. C.P.'s Jake Langbehn was third.

Lowell 17, Andrean 39: Brian Blaylock, Ethan Huseman and Matt Wilson were the top three finishers for the Red Devils, while Andrean's Justin Anderson took fourth.

Wheeler 27, Hanover Central 28: Joel O'Shea and Alex Nader went 1-2 for the Bearcats, who held on for a Greater South Shore Conference win.

The Wildcats' Mike York, Nick Zak and Mitch Olthoff took the next three spots.

Crown Point 23, Lake Central 32; Crown Point 24, Portage 31; Portage 25, Lake Central 32: Tyler Gray finished first to lead the Bulldogs to two DAC victories.

Lake Central's Zach Hupp was second; C.P.'s Jake Langbehn was third, and Portage's Lucas Sullivan and Tylor Hudson were fourth and fifth.

Valparaiso 15, Michigan City 50: Isaiah Thomas edged teammate Logan Meeter for the individual title, as the No. 1 Vikings cruised past the Wolves in Duneland Athletic Conference action. Valparaiso took the top nine spots.

LaPorte 24, Chesterton 31; LaPorte 15, Merrillville 50; Chesterton 15, Merrillville 50: Sam Miller and Anthony Didion went 1-2 for the No. 5 Slicers in picking up two DAC wins.

Chesterton's Alex Genetski was third.

 

Girls cross country

Andrean 25, Lowell 34: Sarah Wieser and Rachel Megquiere went 1-2 for the Devils, but Andrean's depth got the win. Chloe Killion, Kayla Erickson, Isabella Pradhan, Kellyn Vale, Kaycee Crist and Alyson Janiga went 3-8 for the 59ers.

Hanover Central 15, Wheeler INC: Olivia Umlauf, Lindsey Kolanowski and Ivana Micic took the top three spots for the Wildcats in picking up a GSSC win.

Munster 23, Highland 38: Clarissa Magley won the event for the Trojans, but Munster's depth got the team win. The Mustangs' Brittany Barajas and Mallory Grim were second and third; Highland's Reilly Panozzo was fourth, and Munster's Emily McNicholas was fifth.

Kankakee Valley triple dual: Hobart's Mindy Whidden was the overall winner in 20:02 and teammate Celena Guerrero was second (20:03) as the Brickies beat Kankakee Valley 19-36 and Griffith 15-50.

Kankakee Valley beat Griffith 15-50 as the Kougars' Brittany Stepp was third (21:15).

LaPorte 22, Chesterton 33; LaPorte 15, Merrillville 47; Chesterton 15, Merrillville 50: Elena Lancioni won in 18 minutes, 44.76 seconds, leading the No. 3 Slicers to a DAC sweep. Teammate Kailee Schoof was second (18:48.64).

Lindsey Nielsen was the top finisher for the No. 2 Trojans, placing third in 19:46.45.

Hanover Central 15, Wheeler INC: Olivia Umlauf, Lindsey Kolanowski and Ivana Micic took the top three spots for the Wildcats in picking up a GSSC win.

The Bearcats' Abby Janda and Lauren Fratzke finished fourth and fifth.

 

Boys tennis

Sanderson breaks K.V. record for career wins: Kankakee Valley No. 1 singles player Luke Sanderson broke the school's career record for wins with his 57th Monday. Sanderson won 6-0, 6-0 against Marquette.

Calumet 4, River Forest 1: The Warriors (4-6, 2-2) swept the singles and won at No. 2 doubles for a GSSC victory over the Ingots. Joshua Borst, Adrian Flores and Tristan Cummings won in singles, and the the tandem of Robert Huff-Tommie Cook won in doubles.

River Forest's Mike Carver and Joey Medrano won at No. 1 doubles.

E.C. Central 5, Roosevelt 0: The Cardinals (6-5) didn't lose a game in the match. Fabian Garcia, Abraham Garcia and Cristian Camacho swept singles, while Guillermo Cabrera and Ahmad Muhammed, and Reyes Maldonado and Cesar Guillen did the same in doubles.

Crown Point 5, Valparaiso 0: Blythe Bonin won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, leading the No. 1 Bulldogs (12-0, 5-0) to a DAC sweep over the No. 4 Vikings.

Merrillville 3, Michigan City 2: Nygel Jackson led a singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1.

Chesterton 4, Portage 1: Johnny Mario won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, helping the No. 3 Trojans (6-2, 3-2) defeat the No. 10 Indians (6-5, 2-3) in DAC play.

Jon Craig and Kody McGuire picked up Portage's lone point with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.

Wheeler 5, Lake Station 0: The No. 8 Bearcats (8-5, 3-1) won each GSSC match in straight sets. Jack Hibbard led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.

 

Girls golf

Kankakee Valley 181, Hanover Central 208: Bethany Jansma shot a 2-over 39 at South Shore to lead the Kougars (16-1) to the win. Tara Beere and Madison Wireman both shot 46.

The Wildcats (4-6) were led by Hayley Frost's 48.

Lake Central 164, Munster 175, Highland 234: Kylie Shoemake and Allie Onest both shot 39s to lead the Indians past the Mustangs and Trojans at Palmira. Teammate Julia Beggs shot a 42 as did Munster's Natalie Vellutini.
