Dwayne Haden scored a team-best 19 points and handed out five assists with five steals to lead Lake Station past Griffith 57-53 in boys basketball action Tuesday.

The Eagles (15-5) took a 33-22 halftime lead and held on despite a second-half push by Griffith (14-6).

Benjamin Neals chipped in 13 points for Lake Station and had a team-high seven rebounds. Brian Patterson scored 12.

Tremell Murphy had a game-high 20 points for Griffith, and notched a double-double with 12 rebounds. Anthony Murphy added 10 points.

Kouts 76, River Forest 59: Jake Bekelya drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 31 points to pace Kouts.

Cody Nelson added 15 points and six assists for the Mustangs (14-4); Dylan Bruce scored 12 points, and Matt Stewart had 10.

Brandon Laas led River Forest with 20 points. Ryan Slavey added 14.

Hebron 67, Westville 63: Tony Rose had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks (12-9, 4-3) over the Blackhawks (12-8, 2-4) in Porter County Conference play. Bryce Hanaway added 17 points; Donovan Friel had 13, and Drew Wheeler scored 11.

Shawn Gerron scored a team-high 22 points for Westville. Josh Brownlee added 19 points.

Merrillville 61, Morgan Township 50: Jairus Stevens scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Pirates (4-14) over the Cherokees (10-8). D.J. Wilkins added 13 points.

Jake Koselke had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds for Morgan Township. Chase Braden added 14 points, while Tyler Abbett had 12.

Crown Point 88, Boone Grove 55: Bulldog sophomore Grant Gelon scored a career-high 25 points, 17 of which came in a 31-point first quarter as Crown Point (11-8) cruised to victory.

Gelon hit seven 3-point field goals as Crown Point was 15 of 21 from behind the arc in one of its best shooting nights of the season. Bret Barclay had 14 points, and Blake Bonin -- who had four treys -- and Thayne Bukowski each added 12 for the Bulldogs.

Jon Hogg scored a game-high 27 points for the Wolves (6-12).

Portage 44, Kankakee Valley 40: Jordan Collazo scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Indians (11-9) over the Kougars (7-13). Luke Kizer added 11.

Alonte Blackwell topped Kankakee Valley with 12 points. Darrick Webster and Matt Myers each scored 10.

Area players nominated for IBCA/Subway Player of the Week: Six area players were nominated for the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week award. The local list included Hyron Edwards (E.C. Central), Dwayne Haden (Lake Station), Zach VanHook (Lowell), Tyler Wideman (Lake Central), Dana Evans (West Side) and Naomi House (Bishop Noll).

Winners included Jonathon Wilkinson (NorthWood), P.J. Thompson (Indianapolis Brebeuf), Sean Sellers (Greensburg), Whitney Jennings (Logansport), Mary Claire Fagan (Indianapolis Chatard) and Maura Muensterman (Evansville Mater Dei).

E.C. Central Sectional tickets go on sale today: Tickets for the Class 4A E.C. Central boys basketball sectional go on sale from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Monday in the athletic office. Tickets are $10.

Tickets can also be purchased from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Lake Central. Enter through door E on the south side of the school.

Gymnastics

Portage 109.8, LaPorte 102.45: Danielle Solis won the all-around (38.05), beam (9.65), floor (9.6) and vault (9.6), leading the Indians past the Slicers in Duneland Athletic Conference play. Teammate Madison Kurtz won bars (9.3).
