TUESDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Slow start dooms S.C. girls in O-D Sectional

A two-point first quarter put the South Central girls basketball team in a deep hole, and it never recovered, falling 60-36 to Argos in the opening game of the Class A Oregon-Davis Sectional.

Jill Rosenbaum notched a game-high 16 points for the Satellites (8-13), while Sydney Satoski tallied a dozen. Only four players managed to score for S.C., which trailed 18-2 after a quarter.

 

Gymnastics

Chesterton 104.675, Lake Central 95.725: Brandi Tuzinski won three events and the all-around to pace the Trojans' Duneland Athletic Conference triumph. Tuzinski scored 35.5 all-around, with firsts on uneven bars (8.775), balance beam (9.4) and floor exercise (9.225). Chesterton's Julia Campbell claimed the remaining event, vault, with an 8.8. She was also all-around runner-up (33.9).

 

Boys Swimming

Kankakee Valley 94, Morton 88: Cody Jones (200 IM, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay) led the Kougars past the Governors. Connor Davidson (50, 100 free) and Brock Daniels (200, 500 free) were double winners for Morton, also contributing to the 200 free relay victory.

Wheeler 97, Hobart 72: Michael Tasicas won the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Brandon Bolde won the 200 free and 100 fly for Wheeler.

 

Boys Basketball

Victory Christian 83, Grace Christian 30: Leventes Strong registered 23 points, and Calvin Reisinger was close behind with 22 to power the Lions (16-7, 5-2) to an easy South Shore Christian Conference road victory.

Local players nominated: Several area players were nominated for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association-Pacers/Fever Players of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 4.
