UNLV was the final of four recruiting visits for Harley Dubsky, and the trip had a lasting impression on the Valparaiso junior golfer.
"I didn't know what to expect, but I fell in love with everything," said Dubsky, who recently made a verbal commitment to the school. "It was everything I wanted."
Dubsky has finished among the top 10 at the IHSAA state finals each of the last three seasons, placing third as a junior. One of the key points of the decision dealt with her intended major: hotel management and culinary arts.
"I sort of thought about going somewhere and majoring in business," said Dubsky, who also visited Arizona, Arkansas and Georgia. "This is a perfect deal for me both athletically and academically."
Dubsky will not sign until November, but she didn't want to lead on other schools.
"I wanted to be fair to them," she said. "It's nice to have everything taken care of."
Dubsky is in her third winter at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., but she plans on staying in Valparaiso for her entire senior year.
"It's nice, because the pressure is now off," she said. "Now I can focus on being the best golfer I can become." !~ Jim Hunsley
