Crete-Monee linebacker Nyles Morgan is one of 12 finalists for the high school Butkus Award, which honors the nation’s top football linebackers.
"This award is about honoring linebackers at all levels, and reminding them that they have a responsibility to serve as role models and to give back to society," Dick Butkus, the Pro Football Hall of Fame and former Chicago Bears linebacker, stated in a news release.
Morgan has 49 solo tackles and 24 assists for the Warriors, who host Providence at 1 p.m. Saturday. He has multiple college scholarship offers.
Morgan has 10 tackles-for-loss, forced five fumbles and recovered three. He also has two sacks.
In other football news, T.F. South's Ka'Ton Mays, Josh Gentry, Fred Taylor, Raphael Canty, Torey Lewis and Jariel Brooks earned all-South Suburban Blue honors. Cody Petrich made special mention.
T.F. North's A.J. Price, Jay Harvey and Nikita Smith Jr. were named to the SSC Blue team.
Marian Catholic's Ki-Jana Crawford and Brian Richardson were named to the East Suburban Catholic team.
Honors for T.F. South's Lee: T.F. South's Crystal Lee was named the South Suburban Blue Conference player of the year for helping the Rebels to a share of the conference title.
Teammates Leah Lagestee, Ashtyn Kapovich and Abbe Mullen also earned all-SSC Blue honors.
Jenna Pasko made honorable mention.
T.F. North's Esther Fagbemi also made the all-SSC Blue team.
In the East Suburban Catholic Conference, Marian Catholic's Amber Clay was named to the team.
All ESCC team: Marian Catholic's Alec Guarino and Chris Taborn were named to the team.
Warrior Shoot-Out: T.F. South will face Rich Central at noon Dec. 21 in the Crete-Monee Warrior Shoot-Out.
Mount Carmel and Thornwood will play at 1:30 p.m., followed by Bradley-Bourbonnais and Joliet Central at 3 p.m.
Bloom Township and Lemont play at 4:30 with Marian Catholic and T.F. North scheduled for 6 p.m. The final game will be the host Warriors vs. Lincoln-Way East at 7:30 p.m.
