There were no Whitakers or Pieronis in Chesterton's boys swimming lineup, but the Trojans could well afford the luxury of resting their studs in Wednesday's Duneland Athletic Conference meet at Merrillville.
Sam Kravitz (200 freestyle, 500 free), Tom McGue (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) and Chris Kaptur (50 free, 100 free) all scored double victories and swam on a pair of winning relays as the Trojans rolled past the Pirates, 147-38.
Chesterton placed 1-2 in all but three events, including all three relays.
Valparaiso 130, LaPorte 55: Andrew Antonetti (100 fly, 100 back) and Darian Low (50 free, 100 free) each claimed two individual firsts and contributed to a pair of relay victories to lead the Vikings past the Slicers in a DAC meet.
Calumet 40, Griffith 27: The host Warriors (16-6) won nine matches against the Panthers (10-14), whose freshman 106-pounder Jeremiah Reitz improved to 31-1.
Munster 75, E.C. Central 67: Sophomore center Madelynn Moore scored 22 points, and junior guard Jordan Cole added 20 points to lead Munster to the win at E.C. Central. Sophomore forward Megan Zabrecky added 17 for the Mustangs (5-10).
Junior Tiajaney Hawkins scored 21 points, senior Tenaytia Sanford 14 points and sophomore Cheyenne White 10 points for the Cardinals (4-14).
Kankakee Valley 54, Andrean 44: Bethany Jansma’s 26 points led all scorers as Kankakee Valley captured a Northwest Crossroads Conference victory. Ashley Norberg chipped in 12 points for the Kougars.
Brenna Boyle and Haley Hrosik scored 10 each for Andrean.
Hobart 46, Wheeler 38: The Brickies used a 16-point second quarter to force Wheeler to play catchup. Grayce Roach led Hobart with 13 points, and Zoe Wilson added 12 with seven rebounds.
Shannon Eden’s 15 points led Wheeler and all scorers.
Griffith 72, Gavit 49: Anthony Murphy and Rodney Lewis hit four 3s each as the Panthers sailed to a nonconference victory. Anthony Murphy scored 15 points, and Tremell Murphy and Rodney Lewis had 12 each as Griffith had a 37-19 lead at halftime.
Eric Sims paced Gavit with 14 points, and John Freeman tallied 12 for the Gladiators.
Lake Station 61, Hanover Central 31: Brian Patterson scored 20 points as the Eagles soared to a Greater South Shore Conference win. Dwayne Haden and Benjamin Neals added 12 points each.
Payton Smith’s 13 points led Hanover Central.
