One way or another, Hanover Central girls basketball coach Doug Nelson had to hit the century mark on Wednesday night. And Nelson picked up his 100th win as his Wildcats beat Calumet, 71-21, in Greater South Shore Conference play.
Breanna Kerley scored 14, Brooke Sterkowitz had 11 and Hayley Serbin and Lisa Gac had 10 for the 'Cats (3-3, 3-0).
"We've had a lot of great kids and a lot of hard work," Nelson said after raising his career mark to 100-99. "We finished better around the basket tonight. It was a good conference win."
Jaireh Ratliff led Calumet (1-5, 0-2) with seven points.
His brother, Dustin Nelson, is the coach at Wheeler. His record is 96-69.
"I knew I'd get it this season but I wasn't hoping to go 99-99," Nelson said. "He'll get there this year. I'm his biggest fan."
Clark 56, Hammond Academy 28: The Pioneers (1-4) got nine points, eight rebounds and six steals from Alexis Simmons to get the win over Hammond Academy (1-3). Dulce Garcia also scored nine for Clark and Anastasia Holden and Gladis Garcia chipped in eight.
Griffith 57, Whiting 32: The visting Panthers (1-1) raced to a 35-17 halftime lead and never looked back against the Oilers (2-1).
Erick Johnson's 10 points topped Griffith. Matt Dvorscak and Chris Dietz had seven points apiece for Whiting, which missed 19 free throws.
Crown Point 60, LaPorte 14: Times No. 2 Crown Point won six matches by fall and eased to the Duneland Athletic Conference win.
The Bulldogs’ Aaron Cassillas (106), Denton Schurg (145), Darden Schurg (152), Dax Jones (160), Morgan Kral (195) and Steven Potosky (220) each won by pin.
LaPorte’s Landon Blackburn (285) won by pin.
Bishop Noll 48, Hammond 21: Andres Perez (126 pounds), Mark Filiciano (170), Torre Flournoy (182) and Jesus Loe (220) each won by pin to help the Warriors defeat the Wildcats. Bishop Noll also won four matches by forfeit.
Hammond’s Javante Jones (132) and Randy Scarborough-Jackson (138) won by pin.
Gavit 98, Hammond 31: Kaven Kolb won the 200-yard individual medley and 500 free to lead the Gladiators over the Wildcats in Great Lakes Athletic Conference action.
Gerardo Lemus won the 50 free for Hammond.
Gavit 84, Hammond 23: Alexandria James won the 500 free and 100 back to help the Gladiators defeat the Wildcats in GLAC action.
Hammond’s Julissa Meraz won the 50 free, and teammate Tax Dixon won the 100 free.

Highland toy drive Friday: The Highland Basketball Club will run a toy drive during Friday's boys varsity basketball game against Merrillville. The junior varsity game will be at 6 p.m., and the varsity game follows.
New and unwrapped toys collected at the game will be sent to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago.
The Highland club is made up of fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys, and the squads participate in league and tournament events during the late fall and winter.
