Cody Earl allowed a hit to lead off the game, then struck out six over the next three innings as Morton beat E.C. Central 15-0 in baseball action Wednesday.
In a game that was moved from E.C. Central to Morton, Patrick McCormick fanned two in two innings as the pair of pitchers combined for the shutout.
Earl scored two runs and was 2-for-3; Davonte Robinson scored three runs, and Alex Tomaszewski drove in three runs for Morton.
Kouts 5, Oregon-Davis 3: Freshman Alex Garavalia was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and scored a run, leading Kouts to a season-opening win.
Classmate Jake Everaert was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Senior Jake Bekelya allowed one hit and had eight strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings for the victory.
Washington Township 4, Lake Station 0: Jordan Williams singled in two runs in a four-run fifth inning that carried the Senators (1-1) past the Eagles. Corey Holderread and Bryce Collins combined on a three-hitter.
Marquette Catholic 15, LaCrosse 7: Isaiah Papineau had three hits and an RBI to lead the Blazers over the Tigers. Steven Stachyra and Carter Moldenhauer each added an RBI.
Crown Point 10, Hobart 0 (5 inn.): Miranda Elish had two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the No. 3 Bulldogs over the Brickies (0-2).
Elish also tossed four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Rachel Honeker and Ally Rock each had a double and two RBIs.
Gavit 14, West Side 1: The Gladiators had six extra-base hits in pounding the Cougars. Kristen Alamillo had two doubles, while Brianna Mangerson, Shelby Geurts and Gabby Zamora each had two RBIs. Amber Sanders struck out 15 to pick up the win.
Highland 5, Morton 1: The Trojans' Allison Jorsch and Aleysha Slaven each tripled in their season-opening win. Slaven went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Jorsch had two hits and a run. Highland pitcher Brittany Fowler, who fanned seven, took a no-hitter into the fourth before it was broken up by Irene Torres.
