Dean Flores scored a game-high 15 points to lead Lake Station's boys basketball team to a 49-27 win over rival River Forest (1-7, 1-3) on Wednesday night in Greater South Shore Conference play.
The Eagles (5-2, 3-1) led 27-23 late in the third quarter before Flores scored the final eight points to break open a close game.
This always tenacious showdown was even hotter due to the fact that two former Ingots -- Rick Garcia (8 points) and Hasonie Walters (8 points) -- transferred to Lake Station last summer.
Justin Pennington led River with 12 points.
Calumet 70, Marquette 50: Leventes Strong scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Warriors (4-5, 2-2) to a GSSC win. Devanta Mitchell scored 21 for Calumet.
Marquette (1-7, 0-4) was led by Dominic Fumo's 25 points.
Andrean 45, Hebron 21: Natasha Zurek had a game-high 12 points as the visiting 59ers (8-6) defeated the Hawks (2-11). Kelsie Plesac added 10 points for Andrean.
Christy Reick had a team-high eight points for Hebron.
Highland 49, Hammond 28: Julia Wiesemann and Britney Henson each scored 12 to lead the Trojans (6-6) to the victory. The Wildcats (5-7) were led by Emeral Holmes' game-high 15 points.
Gavit 60, Hanover Central 48: Breauna Rivoli-Johnson scored 31 points to lead the Gladiators (9-5) to their third-straight win. BreAnne Misner scored 14 for the victors, and Hattie Andrews had 13.
Blayr Poston led host Hanover (6-6) with 14 points.
Oregon-Davis 78, Westville 32: Rachel Pfledderer scored a game-high 22 points, but the Class A No. 5-ranked Bobcats (9-3) defeated the Blackhawks (5-6).
Four records set, matched at Rumble: Four scoring and steals records were set at the two-day Region Roundball Rumble held by The Times.
Boone Grove's Emily Bobrowski hit four 3s to tie the single-game record with former Miss Basketball Brittany Rayburn of Attica. Wolves teammate Brittany DeWell tied the single-game record for steals with seven against Lowell.
From the Morton boys team, game MVP Vasha Davis set a rebounding record with 20 in the Govs' double-overtime win over Gavit. Teammate D'Jari Griffin tied the single-game steals record nabbing seven.
Chesterton 107.475, LaPorte 100.475: Emily Kozak won the all-around (34.875) and two individual events to lead Chesterton over LaPorte in Duneland Athletic Conference action.
Kozak also placed first on vault (9.125) and beam (8.95). Chesterton's Samantha Wilburn won floor (9.425) and Brandi Tuzinski bars (8.7).
Chesterton 45, Michigan City 27: The host Trojans won six matches by pin to defeat the Wolves in DAC action. Alex Katsafaros (130 pounds), Chris Katsafaros (135), Jaycee Jensen (152), Chad Shaw (160), Tony Sanchez (171) and Ryley Harlow (heavyweight) won their matches by fall.
