Mahnke is off to a good start and could make a trip to state like
he did in 2010.
Bloom Township

Key losses: Tyshon Edmond (sectional qualifier,
24-8).
Wrestlers to watch: Lavonte' Blackful, Derrick Richardson,
Shijuan Rogers, Toby Lee, Alex Wiggs.
Blackful was third in the frosh-soph state tournament, while
Richardson was 18-7 and a sectional qualifier. Rogers was 25-9 and
Lee and Wiggs had successful campaigns.
How do the new weight classes affect your
program?: "I do not feel that the new alignment of the
weight classes will aid or hinder us. It is just a matter of the
young men making weight and wrestling to the best of their

Outlook: New coach Zimmerman has a young team
with just one senior in the lineup. Tilley and Rosenfeldt should be
able to handle their own and give the Warriors a chance in the
upper weights.
How do the new weight classes affect your

Outlook: Geijer is very positive about this
year. The Vikings could compete with the better teams in the
SouthWest Suburban Blue. Geijer thinks the team can win 15 dual
meets and have good showings in tournaments.
How do the new weight classes affect your
program?: "They actually work to our advantage this year.
Not sure how it will affect the program in the future, though." —

Outlook: Groen was 37-7 and the Vikings have
moved down to Class 1A, which could give them a good chance of
getting several kids to state and also a chance to do well in the
team tournament.
How do the new weight classes affect your
program?: "The new weight classes did not really affect
us. We still have several guys in the middle, which is where we
always have a bunch of extra guys. In my opinion, they should have
left well enough alone." — Bosman

Marian Catholic

Outlook: Dan Jordan takes over for Joe Gilbert
and has several good lower-weight wrestlers. One is Nate Jackson,
who was fifth at 152 pounds in Class 3A. The new weight classes
should be to Marian's advantage. Williams, Cavanaugh, Kelly and
Domke will be expected to be leaders as well.
How do the new weight classes affect your
program?: "They help a lot because we have a lot of
upper-weight wrestlers." — Jordan

Outlook: Kading will continue the tradition of
excellence with the program. Mizaur is a two-time state qualifier
and Bryce Brill transferred from Marmion, where he was the Class 2A
state champ at 135. Mickens and Denne give the Caravan strength in
the upper weights. This team can be solid from top to bottom by
February.
How do the new weight classes affect your
program?: "I'm not a huge fan of them. It will take some
time getting use to." — Kading

Outlook: There is not of experience, and the
Falcons are in a tough wrestling conference. The Falcons are in
Class 2A and could have a few wrestlers do well. It depends on how
fast they mature.

program?: "We have many first-year wrestlers, so it does

Outlook: Both LeByron and LeBrandon Collins,
Knight and Fox are coming off a good football season and should
bring that competitiveness to the mat. LeByron was a regional champ
as was Fox. LaBrandon and Knight were regional runners-up.

program?: "Numbers are always a problem, I don't see the
new weight classes as an issue." — Hernandez

Outlook: Tisza was 34-8 and a state qualifier
and Gilmore won 23 matches. Cooper, Berryhill and Pickett are
expected to be improved. The Rebels can make some noise in the
tough SSC Blue.
How do the new weight classes affect your

Outlook: The Thunderbirds have experience and
could make some noise. Aaron Richmond was 24-10 and a sectional
qualifier, while his brother Andre Richmond had a good summer.
Major won 21 matches, while Farmer is coming off a 20-win
season.

during the spring and summer. Their confidence and level of
competitiveness has reached new heights. Our seniors should
