The Lake County Wrestling Tournament was held last Saturday at Hanover Central, and one prominent coach with a great resume was not in the building.
Long-time Griffith head coach Travis Walls did not coach the Panthers and it is unclear when, or if, he will coach again.
"This is a personnel issue," Griffith superintendent Peter Morikis said Thursday afternoon. "No comment."
When asked if Walls had been suspended, or relieved of his coaching duties, Morikis said the same thing.
Griffith High School athletic director Bill Crowley did say that long-time assistant Chris Mares is now coaching the Panthers wrestling team.
Walls had a great run a decade ago. In 2003, he led the Panthers to a team state runner-up finish in the state tournament.
He also coached several individual state champs, including Alex Tsirtsis, Jose Escobedo, Angel Escobedo and Andrae Hernandez.
An attempt to reach Walls on Thursday night was unsuccessful.
