Adult baseball team looking for pitchers

VALPARAISO | Horizon Gymnastics Center is taking registration for its GymJam classes through Nov. 6. The late fall session begins Monday. Phenom Top 150 college exposure showcase at The Fieldhouse
MERRILLVILLE | The Fieldhouse-Merrillville will host the Phenom Top 150 college exposure showcase on Nov. 8 for boys and girls basketball players in their freshman, sophomore or junior years of high school. VALPARAISO | Enrollment for gymnastics classes at Valparaiso High School take lace from 5:30 to 6 p.m. today in the VHS Fieldhouse. Classes are available at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. The cost is $30. The classes are for students age 5 and older. The six-class session begins in November.

Portage to hold elementary wrestling league
PORTAGE | Portage Twp. Schools will offer a Portage Elementary Wrestling League beginning Tuesday and ending Dec. 17. Practices will be held twice a week, starting Nov. 3 in the PHS East Wrestling Room. There will be three dual meets during the last three weeks of the League.
Signups will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in front of the PHS East wrestling room (Entrance Q). Cost is $50, which includes coaching, T-shirt and an HYWA membership. Checks can be made out to Portage YMCA. Please bring a copy of the child's birth certificate to signups.

Duneland Wrestling Club league in Chesterton
CHESTERTON | The Chesterton High School wrestling staff and Duneland Wrestling Club will hold an Elementary/Intermediate Wrestling League during November and December. Children in grades K-5 are welcome. The first practice and final signups will be Tuesday.
November practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the exception of Thanksgiving. December practices will be once a week, on Monday or Tuesday, with "friendship meets" on the first three Thursdays. All practices will be from 5:45 to 7 p.m.

Turkey Trot set for Nov. 26
VALPARAISO | The sixth annual Valparaiso Swim Club Turkey Trot will be Thanksgiving morning at the Valparaiso High School Fieldhouse. Along with a 10K competitive run, there will be a 5K run/walk. Registration for both events starts at 7 a.m., followed by the races at 8:30. All participants who pre-register are guaranteed a long-sleeve shirt. There will be hot and cold beverages and food for all participants along with overall, overall masters and age group awards for both the 5K and 10K finishers. The races will feature chip timing from T & H Timing.

Portage Parks Department offers fall programs
PORTAGE | The Portage Parks Department is offering numerous fall programs. They will be held in the Woodland Park Oakwood Grand Hall unless otherwise indicated.
Strike Busters Bowling: Six-week sessions at Camelot Lanes will start Nov. 12 and Jan. 14, at 4:30 p.m. Bowling is open to ages 4-12. Cost is $40 for residents, $5 for non-residents. Deadlines are the day before the start of a session.
Tumbling Tuesdays: Children will learn the fundamentals of tumbling while developing balance, agility and strength. Sessions, which run on six consecutive Tuesdays, will begin on Nov. 10, Jan. 15 and March 2, at the Portage Yacht Club. They go from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. for age 2 and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for ages 4-5. Class size limit is 15. Cost is $35 for residents, $40 for non-residents. Register for a session by the day prior to its start.

DeBold, who graduated from Andrean as class valedictorian in 1998 before helping the University of Miami baseball team win two NCAA titles (1999 and 2001) as a relief pitcher, was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2008.
