Northwest Indiana has its first girls basketball regional champions since 2005 as Griffith beat Gavit 35-21 to win the Class 3A Rensselaer Regional, while Merrillville beat Elkhart Memorial 55-54 to win the 4A Valparaiso Regional.

In other girls basketball regional action, Valparaiso University recruit Tabitha Gerardot had 19 points and 19 rebounds to lead Fort Wayne Canterbury to a 55-33 victory over Kouts (19-4) in the Class A Caston Regional semifinals.

Meanwhile, at the Class 2A Culver Regional semifinals, Hanover Central (13-10) lost to Westview 44-35.
