Marquette's Ryan Fazekas did not play in Monday night's Indiana All-Star-Junior All-Star game at Logansport after sustaining a groin strain in practice on Sunday.
The Indiana Junior All-Stars could've used him in a big loss to the Indiana All-Stars.
"I was looking forward to going out and showcasing what I can do," Fazekas said. "It's always fun to play with the older guys and get to know them. I'm a little disappointed, but I can't really risk hurting it more."
Fazekas had 12 points on four 3s in Friday's win over the Kentucky Juniors.
Palombizio gives it a go: Chesterton's Chris Palombizio played limited minutes Friday against Kentucky and wasn't sure before Monday's game how much he would be able to play. Palombizio had not played in a game since breaking the fifth metatarsal in his left foot late in the season against Valparaiso.
"My foot doesn't really hurt. It's more my ankle, getting used to playing, building the muscles back up," Palombizio said. "I'm easing into it. It was hurting (Friday), but I still played. We'll play it by ear, see how it goes."
Palombizio spent most of his time away from the court in the weight room, bulking up to 220 pounds.
Drive safely: Davon Dillard still had finals to take care of at Bowman Academy on Monday, so the Eagles junior had to hurry, within the speed limit of course, to get to the Berry Bowl on time for the game.
Come on zebras: Former Chesterton player Matt Holba picked up his fourth foul with four minutes left in the first for the Junior All-Stars. He laughed, then the now Guerin Catholic 6-foot-6 standout had something for the officials.
"I'm going to be the first guy to foul out of an all-star game ever," Holba said.
He did not end up fouling out, though.
Juniors go 2-0: On Friday night at Greenfield-Central High School the Indiana Junior All-Stars played the Kentucky Junior All-Stars in a doubleheader. In the boys game, won by Indiana 127-104, E.C. Central's Hyron Edwards led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists on 8-of-10 shooting.
Bowman Academy's Davon Dillard and Marquette's Ryan Fazekas each scored 12. Former Chesterton standout Matt Holba (Guerin Catholic) scored seven while Munster's Drew Hackett added four.
In the girls game, Indiana won 98-67. Michigan City's Michal Miller scored 11 points while Merrillville's Victoria Gaines scored 10 and grabbed seven reounds.
Juniors go 2-0 again: On Saturday night at Dunbar High School in Lexington, Indiana's Junior boys beat Kentucky 113-101 and the girls won 84-61. Dillard scored 12 and grabbed six rebounds in the win and Edwards did not score but had three assists. In the girls game Gaines had six points and eight rebounds.
