Disc Golf World Championships at Lemon Lake

CROWN POINT | The Professional Disc Golf Association World Championships will take place July 27-31 at Lemon Lake County Park. Expected to participate are 12-time world champion Ken Climo, 2009 PDGA Player of the Year Nikko Locastro, and 2008 Player of the Year David Feldberg.

Munster resident Brian Cummings will be inducted into the Disc Golf Hall of Fame during the tournament.

Dunes Volleyball Club holding passing, hitting and setting clinics

ROLLING PRAIRIE | The Dunes Volleyball Club is holding a passing clinic from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 19, and a hitting and setting clinic from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Dunes Operation Center. The passing clinic will feature former Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year Amy Morris, who starred for Michigan City High School and the University of Tennessee. The hitting and setting clinic will feature former LaPorte High School standout and Grand Valley State University All-American Jamie Ashmore. Cost for each clinic is $75.

No Boundaries running program at Fleet Feet Sports

SCHERERVILLE | Fleet Feet Sports is offering "No Boundaries," a 12-week training program for beginners hoping to run or walk their first four-mile race. The program will begin on Aug. 14 with training sessions every Saturday morning and culminate with the Fall Frolic 4-Mile Run. Informational meetings and signups will be held at the Fleet Feet Sports Schererville store at 6 p.m. July 20 for the walking program, and at 6 p.m. Aug. 3 and 10 for the running program. Bishop Noll holding track and field clinic

HAMMOND | Bishop Noll will hold a track and field clinic on from 1-4:30 p.m. Tuesday for boys and girls who will be ninth graders in the fall the event will be held in the BNI Fieldhouse -- enter from Door C on the eastside of the building. Registration will begin at 12:45 p.m. Instruction will be provided in the dashes, hurdles, distance running, high and long jumps, shot put, discus and relay events. Cost is $5. The fee will be waived for any family who would find the cost a hardship.

Baseball tryouts and hitting camps offered

Coast to Coast Baseball is holding baseball tryouts and hitting camps at the Lake Barrington Fieldhouse, 28156 North Pointe Parkway, Lake Barrington, on July 25; and at Bradley University's Haussler Hall in Peoria on July 26. Tryouts are for ages 10-18, and will take place at 10 a.m. at both locations. Players accepted may choose to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico, or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at a Florida or Arizona camp.

Race to benefit United Way of Will County

JOLIET | The Westfield Works Wonders 5K race will take place at 8 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Westfield Louis Joliet, located on Route 30 and just southeast of I-55. Registration fee is $20 pre-raceand $30 the day of the event. There also will be a Backpack Boogie half-mile run for ages 12 and under at 9 a.m. The race is free with a donation of school supplies, or $5 without a donation. Kiszka Memorial Golf Classic at Green Garden

Future Stars Summer Slam Basketball Camp next week

CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Coach Ron Newquist will be running his annual Future Stars Summer Slam Basketball Camp on Tuesday through Friday at the St. James Health and Wellness Center, located one block west of Halsted and two blocks east of Chicago Road.The camp is for boys and girls ages 7-16. The cost is $80 for the four-day camp. Each player will receive a camp T-shirt, an individual evaluation and a full basketball workout for them to use prepared by Newquist. A registation table will be set up at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the center.

Prairie State College to hold baseball tryouts Aug. 17-20

Football officiating training classes offered

MUNSTER | The Lake County Athletic Officials Association will be holding classes for persons interested in becoming licensed Indiana High School football officials. Classes will be held at the Munster Town Hall from 7:30-9 p.m. July 13, 15, 20 and 22. At the conclusion of the class, an exam necessary for licensing will be given. There is no fee for the class, but a fee and application is required for licensing with the IHSAA. Summer basketball programs at Hobart YMCA

HOBART | The Hobart Family YMCA is holding an adult basketball league for ages 18 and over. Cost is $350 per team. Registration runs through July 14. Six-game season and tournament start July 19. Games will be held on Monday nights.

The YMCA is holding a youth basketball camp from July 5-26. Participants ages 5-8 will meet on Mondays from 7-8 p.m.; participants ages 9-11 will meet on Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for nonmembers.

Volleyball officials classes at Hobart High School

HOBART | The Lake County Athletic Officials Association will be sponsoring classes for persons interested in becoming IHSAA licensed volleyball officials. Classes will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and July 12 at Hobart High School. An NFHS Part I Exam will be administered on July 15. In order to receive an IHSAA license, the student must complete an application for licensing and pay a registration fee of $45. Applicants can not be enrolled in high school.
