The Times is looking for information on local youth baseball and softball leagues and teams to run in "Play Ball!" each Friday. Standings, scores, game highlights, all-star teams, fall league registration, league website URLs and other information may be e-mailed to Sports Editor Paul Trembacki at paul.trembacki@nwi.com, faxed to (219) 933-3249 or dropped off at Times offices in Munster (601 45th Ave.) or Valparaiso (1111 Glendale Blvd.).

Team photos will be accepted for league championships or top-three finishes at major tournaments. Photos must have proper identification, and no one team's photo will run more than once.

Hessville to hold Babe Ruth signups

Signups for Hessville Babe Ruth Fall Ball will be held Saturday (2-3 p.m.), Thursday (4-5 p.m.) and Aug. 7 (4-5 p.m.) at the Hessville Park fieldhouse. John Mallee, hitting coach for the Florida Marlins, has travel baseball teams called the Northwest Indiana Shockers. The Triple Crown travel baseball team will hold tryouts for the 2011 season at Triple Crown Baseball and Softball Academy in Schererville. The Duneland Flyers 11-and-under (prior to May 1, 2011) baseball team will host a tryout for next season from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dogwood Park in Chesterton. The White Sox Training Academy will host fastpitch travel team tryouts for 10-and-under and 12U teams Aug. 7 at Rohrman Park in Schererville and Aug. 15 at Stephen Park in Schererville.

The 10U tryouts will be from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 7 and 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15. The 12U tryouts will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Players need to attend just one tryout.
