HAMMOND | They didn't just play long ball ... the played loooong ball.
South Lexington, Ken. went yard three times, clearing the fences with room to spare while blasting past Quincy, Mass. in an 11-1 final stopped short of four full innings.
Cameron Baughman and Blake Pulliam did most of the damage while both homering during a five-run third inning that put the team up 10-0 at the time. Pulliam's three-run blast was particularly impressive as it cleared the centerfield scoreboard at HOYS Complex's Field 4.
Quincy wasn't giving up, yet. Needing to score a run in the fourth to thwart a stoppage, Martin McCormack slugged a solo shot before his team threatened to score a few more runs that inning only to be turned away.
Baughman's RBI single in the bottom half of the frame ended the game.
South Lexington plays again at 10 a.m. today against El Dorado, Ark.; Quincy will try to regroup against Northern Indiana champion Crown Point at 3 p.m. today.
