John Dudak knows he can't dwell on the past.

The Orland Park, Ill. resident has a history of success at Olympia Lanes. But that doesn't meant he can relax at this week's PBA50 South Shore Open.

"There's no doubt that it's always better to sleep in your own bed, but I can't rely on that," Dudak said. "It's better to be where people know who you are and are on your side, somewhat."

PBA50, formerly known as the senior tour, is stopping in the region for the 14th consecutive year. The South Shore Open will feature some of the best bowlers over 50 in the world, including several area residents.

Dudak is currently fourth in points in the PBA50 Midwest region. His best finish of the season was second in the John Wegner Midwest/Central Open in March. He took 11th in the Northern California Classic and 16th in the SunCoast Regional Classic, both in June.

"This competition is incredible and keeps getting better each year," he said. "To win, you need to get a number of breaks and hope for something to happen."

Dudak has rolled nine 800 series in his career-- an 846 coming last season -- and 19 300 games, including three in PBA events. He recorded three straight 800 series in 2010 at LanOak Lanes in Lansing.

Those accomplishments were good enough to earn Dudak a spot in the Greater Calumet Area USBC Hall of Fame class of 2013. The class was confirmed at the organization's July 29 meeting.

"It's almost indescribable. It's such an honor," he said. "There are some unbelievably talented bowlers in that hall of fame. This is something I never thought would happen."

He'll have to overcome one hurdle this week, though. The auto parts sales manager will miss practice on Monday for work and won't get a chance to feel out the shot. Still, Dudak said his only goal is to win.

"(Missing practice is) a disadvantage. It will hurt me a little bit," Dudak said. "(I'd like to) at minimum, qualify and win a few rounds."
