July golf programs at Creekside

VALPARAISO | Creekside Golf Course and Training Center will host several programs this month.

The Target Academy is open to children ages 9-11. Classes will run from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday as well as July 29-30. Tuition is $60 per session or $30 per class.

The Linkster Academy is open to children ages 6-8. Classes will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday as well as July 29-30.Tuition is $15 per class.

The Lil' Tigers Academy is open to children ages 3-5. Classes will run from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday and July 31. Tuition is $15 a class. The accompanying adult plays for free.

Hook a Kid on Golf starts Monday at Creekside

VALPARAISO | The Hook a Kid on Golf program will run from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through July 30 at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center. The program is open to children ages 8-15. First Tee fundraiser July 30 at Lost Marsh

HAMMOND | The First Tee of Hammond's annual golf outing and fundraiser will take place July 30 at Lost Marsh Golf Course. Registration is from 1 to 1:45 p.m. the day of the event. Shotgun start is at 2 p.m.

The first 18 groups to register will be paired with a rising star -- one of a selected group of participants from the South Shore Junior Golf Association program.

Cost of the event is $100 per golfer and $400 per foursome.

Valpo YMCA golf outing Aug. 5

VALPARAISO | The 20th annual Valparaiso YMCA golf outing will take place Aug. 5 at The Course at Aberdeen. Registration and lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. The shotgun start is at 1. Outing to honor fallen River Forest alum

MERRILLVILLE | A fundraiser for the Nick Roach Scholarship will take place Aug. 14 at Turkey Creek. Roach, a standout athlete at River Forest, died in an auto accident in 2008.

Studebaker Classic Aug. 16

SOUTH BEND | The Studebaker National Museum will hold its eighth annual golf classic Aug 16 at Blackthorn Golf Club. Registration and a putting contest will begin at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start to the golf at 11.

A Florida Scramble format with Peoria scoring will be used. Cost for a foursome is $1,000, which includes green fees, cart, lunch, on-course beverages, hole contests, free rounds of golf at Blackthorn, reception and prizes, in addition to player premiums consisting of Nike custom-fitted golf shoes and shoe bag. Mulligans and 50-50 tickets will also be on sale. Deadline is Aug. 9.

First Tee Youth Golf begins Aug. 28

PORTAGE | The Portage Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with Creekside Golf Course and Training Center in Valparaiso to provide The First Tee youth golf program. The sessions run from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays from Aug. 28 to Oct. 2, plus 10 hours of experience on the course Wednesday mornings. USW scholarship outing Sept. 11

CROWN POINT | The USW/Leon Lynch Career Development Program will host an inaugural scholarship fundraiser golf outing Sept. 11 at Summertree. All proceeds go to the Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund to help the children and grandchildren of Steelworkers. The entry fee of $75 includes golf with cart, breakfast, drink tickets, dinner and more. Porter Am slated for September

PORTER COuNTY | The Porter Amateur, a 72-hole tournament with Open, Ladies and Master divisions, will take place Sept. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at The Course at Aberdeen, The Brassie, Forest Park and the Valparaiso Country Club. Entry fee is $125. The field is limited to 80 players. Entry blanks will be available at the courses by Aug. 1.

 

Special rates at Forest Park, Creekside

VALPARAISO | Early bird twilight special rates are available from noon to 3 p.m. at Forest Park and Creekside. Walking rates are $12 weekdays and $14 weekends at Creekside. At Forest Park, walking rates are $16 weekdays and $19 weekends. Riding rates are $19 weekdays and $21 weekends at Creekside. At Forest Park, riding rates are $23 weekdays and $26 weekends.
