USW Scholarship outing Sunday

CROWN POINT | The USW/Leon Lynch Career Development Program will host the second annual Leon Lynch Learning Center Golf Outing on Sunday at Summertree. All proceeds will go to the Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund, which helps children and grandchildren of steelworkers. The entry fee is $75, which includes golf with cart, breakfast, drink tickets, dinner and more. Hole sponsorships are available for $200. Grandparent's Day at Cedar Creek

CEDAR LAKE | Cedar Creek Family Golf Center, 10483 W. 109th Ave., will hold Grandparent's Day Mini Golf on Sunday. Grandparents can play for free with grandchildren. Cost for adults is $5; cost for kids aged 12 and under is $4. For details, call (219) 365-2902.

 

DK Classic set for Sunday

VALPARAISO | The DK Classic golf outing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at Forest Park Golf Course. The event is a fundraiser for former Valpo athlete Darren Kahl, who suffered a spinal cord injury in 2008. Proceeds are used for medical and rehabilitation expenses. Cost is $70 per golfer, which includes golf, food and drinks. A silent auction with a wide variety of items, in addition to music by ProJams, will take place throughout the day in the clubhouse. Friends and family are encouraged to stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Hole sponsorships are available for $200. Support the Shrine outing Sept. 16

SCHERERVILLE | The inaugural Golf Classic to benefit the Shrine of Christ's Passion will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Briar Ridge Country Club. The outing will include three flights. Winners of each flight will receive their own large memory at The Shrine of Christ's Passion -- more than a $5,000 value -- as well as other prizes. Cost is $300 per player, which includes golf with cart, gourmet lunch and dinner, all beverages on and off the course, and premium gifts. Lunch and registration is at 11 a.m.; shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Shrine, a half-mile interactive trail in St. John, to help retain free admission for all visitors. Sign-ups continue for Porter Am

VALPARAISO | Sign-ups continue for the Porter Amateur, which will be played Sept. 17, 18, 24 and 25. Just added, the winner of the men's master division will receive an invitation to play in the 2012 Northern Amateur, which will be held at Sand Creek Country Club. Play is split between men's masters, men's open and ladies divisions, and parts of the tournament will be played at The Brassie, Forest Park, Sand Creek Country Club and Valparaiso Country Club.
