Indoor Triathlon winners announced

HOMEWOOD | Mark and Kelly Higgins of Tinley Park were the respective men's and women's champion of Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club's annual Indoor Triathlon, held Feb. 22-23.

The triathlon consisted of a 10-minute swim, 20-minute stationary bike ride, and a 15-minute walk/run.

Placing second among the 55 competitors were Roger Nelson, of Flossmoor, and Pennsylvania native Debbie Conner. Eric Zehnder, of Homewood, and Linda Vivona, of Chicago, each placed third.

In the Double Challenge competition (completing the circuit twice), Nelson and Conner each placed first, with Gerry Perez, of Pennsylvania, and Dirk French, of Homewood, placing second and third, respectively, in the men's division.


Future Rebel Baseball Clinic Saturday at T.F. South

LANSING | The Future Rebel Baseball Clinic, which will feature training from the T.F. South coaching staff and players, will take place today at the high school. Times for ages 8-10 will be from noon to 2 p.m. -- registration is a 11:30 a.m.; times for ages 11-14 will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. -- registration is at 2 p.m. Cost is $25.

CMPD holding Health and Fitness Expo March 23

Bevy of Blackhawks to appear at Bridges'

Hunter's Education Safety Course at Cedar Creek

CEDAR LAKE | Lake County Parks is offering a Hunter's Education Safety Course from 6 to 9 p.m. March 15, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 at Cedar Creek Family Golf Center, 10483 W. 109th Ave. Participants must attend both session and pass a written test. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources requires all hunters born after 1986 to take the class. All hunters, regardless of age, need this class if they wish to hunt out of state or participate in state-sponsored hunts.

Those who pass the exam will receive a certified hunter's education card that is good for life. Children 12 and younger are required to have an adult present throughout the class.

HAMMOND | A National Babe Ruth Baseball umpire/coaches clinc will be held at the Hammond Civic Center from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23. Registration will be at 8 a.m. All youth league umpires and coaches, and anyone interested in becoming an umpire with national certification, are encouraged to attend. An open-book National Certification test will be given to first-time umpires. Returning umpires may become recertified, but do not have to take the test. Crown Point taking adult softball sign-ups

CROWN POINT | The Crown Point Parks Department Adult Softball Leagues are taking reservations.

The Men's League will have "C" division play on Wednesdays, "D" division play on Thursdays, and "E" division play on Mondays and Tuesdays. Teams will play double-headers each night. Fee is $575 per team. League play begins April 30. Registration deadline is March 15.
