Colts win semi in OT, advance to regional final
MICHIGAN CITY | Harvey Colts quarterback Carlos Landa snuck the ball into the end zone from the half-yard line to clinch a 6-0 overtime victory over the Glenville (Ohio) Titans in the semifinal of the Division I Pee Wee bracket at the Mid America Pop Warner Regional, Sunday at Ames Field.
The Colts had forced a fumble during the Titans' opening OT possession -- PW overtime rules grant each team matching four-down possessions from the defender's 10 until one establishes a scoring advantage.
The Colts posed numerous threats during regulation as running back Jiere Owens managed to break free for several big runs into Titans territory, but Harvey was thwarted by two red-zone turnovers.
The Colts will face the Oak Park Trojans for the regional final, noon Saturday at Ames.
In the Division I Junior Midget semifinal, the Calumet City Thunderbolts ran into a buzz-saw in the form of the Glenville Titans, who were the consolation champions of the DI JM bracket at last year's PW National Championships.
Led in part by YouTube sensation Bryan West, the Titans initiated a running clock before halftime on way to rolling, 31-0.
