Pro badminton action at Whiting Community Center
WHITING | The Indiana Racquets will take on the Seattle Smash in National Badminton League action 2 p.m. July 5 at Whiting Community Center, 1938 Clark St. The dual will feature two-time Olympian and five-time Czech champion Petr Koukal, three-time Dutch champion Eric Pang, and 2011 U.S. National champion Ilian Perez. Grand Prix of Tennis in Northwest Indiana
MERRILLVILLE | The Northwest Indiana Grand Prix of Tennis will consist of five junior and adult tournaments throughout the summer and fall. Divisions include boys' 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; girls' 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; men's singles; men's 45 singles; women's singles; boys' doubles; girls doubles; men's doubles; women's doubles; and mixed doubles. Tourney dates the State Games of Indiana June 29-30 at Andrean High School, the Highland Open July 20-21 at Highland High School, the Northwest Indiana Summer Grand Prix Aug. 17-18 at a site to be determined, the Whiting Open Sept. 21-22 at Piatek Tennis Courts; and the Grand Prix Finals Oct. 12-13 at a site do be determined.
Each tourney, five points will be awarded for every match won (not including walkovers), 20 points for winning a final, 10 points for losing a final and five points for losing a semifinal. Top eight point winners in each division will qualify for the Grand Prix Finals.
