Vikings win four of five at Joe Napier Invite

HOMEWOOD | Homewood Area Small Fry Basketball won four of five this weekend in the Vikings' own "Joe Napier" Invitational to improve its overall record to 8-2.

Homewood 43, Chicago Heights 40: Brandon Brewer led a balanced attack with 11 points and three rebounds, as Homewood avenged its lone Midwest loss. Joel Watts and Elijah Watts (four rebounds) each added nine points. Bakori Jones dished out four assists for the winners.

Homewood 38, Glenbrook 17: The Vikings yielded just five field goals in the solid defensive effort, while Watts led the offense with 10 points and four rebounds. Bakori Jones chipped in seven points, Jalen Harrison notched three steals and Josiah Palmer finished with five points, five rebounds and three steals.

Robert Taylor 44, Homewood 38: The Panthers gained a 17-7 margin in the final stanza to fend off the 13 points and five rebounds by Viking Jarred Correll. Watts added eight points and three assists for Homewood, while Elijah Jones grabbed five rebounds.

Homewood 52, Kenosha 26: Twin 15-point efforts from Watts (four steals) and Correll (three steals) keyed the Vikings, who limited Kenosha to 19 percent shooting. Bakori Jones topped the winners with seven rebounds, while Elijah Jones and Brewer added seven and six points, respectively.

Homewood 55, Richton Park 51: Nine different scorers paced the Vikings, who were led by Watts (14 points, four assists), Gabe Renchen (nine points, four assists), Correll (nine points), Brewer (eight points) and Bakori Jones (seven rebounds).

The Homewood Rookies were perfect in four weekend contests to improve to 9-0 overall.

ESCC Hall of Fame to induct nine on April 10

MCCOOK | Marian Catholic basketball standout Adam Savick, who was a three-year all-conference selection at Illinois Institute of Technology, will be among the nine to be inducted in the ESCC Hall of Fame, April 10 at the Crystal Sky Banquet Hall.

Others to be enshrined are Marist's 1982 IHSA shot put and discus champion Gary Kostrubala and 1983 138-pound IHSA wrestling champion Tony Evensen; key contributors to Carmel Catholic's 2003 IHSA state football championship team Jack Simmons and Mark Vengoni; Benet coaches Dan Nagis (golf) and Peter Paul (women's basketball); St. Viator golf coach Jack Halpin and longtime women's basketball official John Dacey.

Wheelchair basketball tourney at Broadway Armory

CHICAGO | The Chicago Park District and the Chicago Wheelchair Bulls are putting together a National Wheelchair Basketball Association Championship Division competition, The Neal R. Radbel Tournament, to take place March 22 and 23 at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N. Broadway St.

Entry fee is $250 per team -- checks should be made out to the Chicago Wheelchair Bulls. Each team will be guaranteed four games. Lunch will be provided for athletes and coaches.
