Youth Coed Basketball League holding sign-ups

SAUK VILLAGE | Sauk Village Parks and Recreation is looking for boys and girls ages 7-14 to participate in its Youth Coed Basketball League. Registration at the Community Center behind the police department will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday. Each team will have a coach aged 21 or older. Qualified referees will be at every game. Each player will be provided with a uniform. There will be a banquet and a tournament for each division at the end of the season. Each coach and player will receive a trophy. The primary objective for the league is to promote sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, respect for authority and teamwork -- winning is secondary. South Shore Midwest Billards Championship at Majestic

GARY | The Greater Midwest Poolplayers Association will host the South Shore Midwest Pocket Billiard Championships Wednesday through Sunday at the Majestic Casino and Hotel located at 1 Buffington Harbor. Starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday there will be Open 9-Ball with men and women divisions. On Thursday, the 8-Ball championships will begin with Open "A" singles and Open Seniors (50+) starting at 1 p.m.; Open "B" singles at 4 p.m.; Open Women's at 6 p.m.; and Advanced Women/Men at 8 p.m. Entry fee for singles is $50.

At 2 p.m. Friday, there will be a no-entry sportsman division for players who did not share in the prize pool. At 7 p.m. Friday, there will be three-player team events with men and women divisions.

Former Bears to appear at Bridges' Scoreboard

GRIFFITH | Former Bears Mike Hartenstine, Adrian Peterson and Bobby Douglass are scheduled to appear at Bridges Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar. Hartentine will be there from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Peterson will appear from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 20, and Douglass will appear from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 4. Admission is free for all appearances. For all players, there here will be a $10 charge of each item to be signed. Photos of the players will be sold for $10 each. Midwest holding call-outs for competitive cheer program

DYER | Midwest Training and Ice Center, 10600 White Oak Ave., will be holding call-outs for its half-season cheer teams from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 and from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 3. Half-season teams are for athletes who have missed all-star team tryouts as well as newer athletes who want to try cheer before making the full year commitment.

NWI NABA championship to resume Saturday

GARY | The rain-delayed NWI National Adult Baseball Association championship game between the Cubs and Blue Jays will resume at 5 p.m. Saturday at the U.S Steel Yard. The game will pick up at the top of the sixth with the score tied at 5-5. Admission is free. Concessions will be available. No food or drink are allowed to be brought into the park.

 

NWI White Sox Fastball Softball has openings for teams

Women's volleyball league starting Nov. 18
