DYER | Midwest Training and Ice Center's artistic gymnastics program produced 14 state champions who earned 20 gold medals this spring.
"This is the most ever for us," general manager Judy Redmond said. "It shows the growth of our program."
The gymnasts panned gold medals in a variety of levels during meets held during March and April.
Those taking firsts in their divisions in Level 3 for Midwest included Lilly Kandallu, 6, of St. John (balance beam and all-around); Reilan Garvey, 7, of St. John (vault); and Liliana Ventura-Sullivan, of Highland (floor).
Those taking firsts in their divisions in Level 4 for Midwest included Stephanie Ramos, 8, of St. John (vault); Emaleth Mikula, 9, of Dyer (balance beam, all-around); GeMyah Walker, 9, of South Holland (balance beam); and Gabrielle DeVries, 12, of St. John (uneven bars, balance beam, all-around).
Those taking firsts in their divisions in Level 5 for Midwest included Cloe Amanatidis, 9, of Schererville (vault, floor, all-around); Lydia Lopez, 12, of Crown Point (balance beam); and Maja Zalewski, 11, of Crown Point (uneven bars, floor).
Those taking firsts in their divisions in Level 7 for Midwest included Alicia Pinchok, 13, of Crown Point (floor); and Lauren Feder, 14, of Crown Point (floor).
In the Xcel Gold level, Alyssa Klapkowsk, 14, of Schererville, placed first in the floor.
"The next step is to get these girls through regionals where they can qualify for nationals," Redmond said. "That's our goal for next year."
