Platis wins two golds at Illinois USATF Meet

FRANKFORT | Mary Lou Platis, 68, of Schererville, won two gold medals in the shot put and discus in her age group at the USATF Open and Masters Track and Field Meet, June 14 at Lincolnway North High School.

E'twaun Moore holding annual basketball skills camp

EAST CHICAGO | Former E.C. Central state champion and Purdue Boilermaker, and current NBA player with the Orlando Magic, E'twaun Moore will be hosting his fourth-annual Basketball Skills School, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27-28 at E.C. Hammond Soccer holding fall registration

HAMMOND | Hammond Soccer will hold registration for the fall season at the Hessville Youth Soccer Complex, 167th Street and New Hampshire, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today; and from 9:30 a.m. to noon June 21. The league is for boys and girls ages 7-14 -- must be 7 by Aug. 1, 2014.

Registration fee is $75 plus at $25 uniform fee (jersey, shorts and socks). Checks should be made payable to "Hammond Soccer Club." All fees are due at registration, where new players need to provide a copy of birth certificate, and all players need to provide two small pictures for ID cards.

GARY | The JWA Boys and Girls Club will partner with former major league player and coach Wallace Johnson and the Northshore Amateur Sports Academy in teaching baseball to boys and girls ages 9-12. HAMMOND | Purdue University Calumet Athletics will be hosting summer camps.

* Soccer: The Goalkeeper Academy for boys and girls ages 10-17 will run from 5 to 7 p.m. June 24-26, cost is $75 per camper; The Take Flight Academy for boys and girls ages 5-6 will run from 10 a.m. to noon June 27-26, cost is $60 per camper; The Junior Girls Academy for girls ages 7-12 will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27-29, cost is $90 per camper.

Summer Basketball League at The Fieldhouse

MERRILLVILLE | The Summer Basketball League at The Fieldhouse-Merrillville, 899 East 99th Court, for boys and girls in grades 3-8 will start June 24. Girls in grades 4-8 and boys in grades 3-6 will play on Tuesdays, boys in grades 7-8 will play on Wednesdays, and boys in high school will play on Sundays.
