Late surge lifts C.P. Legends to BR 15-year-old title
BUNKER HILL | Down 1-0 after five innings, the Crown Point Legends rallied for four runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh before holding on to defeat the Newton County-based Travelers 6-2, Sunday at Maconaquah High School to claim the Babe Ruth 15-year-old Northern State Championship.
Alec Basic got the complete-game win on the mound and drove in two-runs with a double during the four-run rally for the Legends. Casey Wolf also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly during the sixth-inning surge.
On Saturday, the Travelers emerged from the loser's bracket and defeated the Legends 3-2 in the championship round after Crown Point had taken a 2-0 lead in the first. That forced a second game and an early wake-up call for the Legends.
"We drove one hour to take batting practice at 8:30 in the morning," said Legends manager Steve Wolf, who anticipated a small-ball pitching duel on Sunday.
"We usually do most of our damage later in the game after a few times through our lineup," said Wolf, who was unable to manage on Sunday due to work obligations.

Pool-play will have the Legends taking on the Southern Illinois champion at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Zanesville High School, Zanesville at noon Friday at Zanesville HS and then the Central Indiana champios a 5:30 p.m. Friday at Gant Municipal Stadium.
