Indiana Chiefs winter baseball camp at Bishop Noll

HAMMOND | The Indiana Chiefs of Hammond baseball program will be conducting its annual Winter Baseball Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2 at the Bishop Noll fieldhouse. The camp is for ages 10-15 as of May 1, 2014. All players will be instructed in fielding, hitting, pitching, base running and individual position play. Crown Point Babe Ruth extending sign-ups to March 1

CROWN POINT | Crown Point Babe Ruth has extended sign-ups for ages 13-18 until March 1. Sign-ups are being taken at the Crown Point Family Fun Center Dome, 1301 Merrillville Road -- ask for Don Ernst. The cost is $200 per player which includes $25 in raffle tickets, $100 for the second player with a $300 family maximum.

The 13-15 division will accept players from Crown Point, Hebron, Hobart and Merrillville. The 16-18 division will take players from Lake, Porter, Newton and LaPorte counties. Any player born in 1995 is eligible for the 16-18 program.

Hammond Sports Hall of Fame dinner March 11

HAMMOND | Tickets are on sale for the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame's annual induction dinner, March 11 at the Hammond Civic Center. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with social time. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale in advance for $20 at the Civic Center, Jean Shepherd Center, House of Pizza, Cheers of Munster, Rich's Barber Shop, Kenwood Tap, Cavalier Inn, and the athletic offices at Purdue University Calumet and all the Hammond high schools. Open racquetball tournament March 1 at Omni

SCHERERVILLE | The Omni Annual Open Racquetball Tournament will take place March 1 at Franciscan Omni Health and Fitness, 221 U.S. Hwy. 41 -- the all-day tourney may be expanded to March 2 if the number of participants dictates.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers in the open divisions. Assistance will be provided to those looking for doubles partners. There will be Junior divisions, but participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent.

HAMMOND | A national Babe Ruth Baseball Umpire/Coaches Clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at the Hammond Civic Center. Registration will start at 8 a.m. All youth league umpires and coaches, and anyone interested in becoming an umpire with national certification, are encouraged to attend. An open-book national certification test will be given to first-time umpires. Returning umpires can become recertified, but do not have to take the test.
