Sunday 16-inch softball league looking for teams

UNIVERSITY PARK | University Park Parks and Recreation is looking for teams to participate in its Men's 16-Inch Sunday Softball League. HAMMOND | The Peregrine Basketball Academy will be hosting an introductory training session Sunday at Purdue University Calumet's Fitness and Recreation Center, 173rd St. Times are from 2:30 to 4 p.m. for boys in grades 5-6, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for boys in grades 7-8, and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for high school boys. This is a kick-off event for a new elite training program that will be conducting multi-week intense sessions throughout the year.

Babe Ruth umpire clinic at Hammond Civic Center

HAMMOND | A National Babe Ruth Baseball umpire/coaches clinc will be held at the Hammond Civic Center from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23. Registration will be at 8 a.m. All youth league umpires and coaches, and anyone interested in becoming an umpire with national certification, are encouraged to attend. An open-book National Certification test will be given to first-time umpires. Returning umpires may become recertified, but do not have to take the test. Cost of the clinic is $25, which includes lunch, plus $40 to take the certification test or to recertify.
