Warriors First Foundation holding motorcycle run

CROWN POINT | The Warriors First Foundation will hold its annual Charity Motorcycle Run and Benefit Concert Saturday. Registration for the event starts at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Post 20 in Crown Point, 1401 S. Main St. At 9 a.m. riders will begin to hit the road making stops at the St. John VFW, the Porter VFW, the Valparaiso VFW and then back to Post 20 for the benefit starting at noon.

There will be two live bands, a DJ, a corn hole tournament, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Cost is $25 per rider, $20 per passenger and $10 for extra card. At each stop, participants will be given one dart to throw at a board that will have numbers 1-25 randomly in squares. The person will the highest sum at the end of the run wins.

Hot Shots raising funds for Arizona firefighter families

VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Hot Shots 14-and-under softball team will raise funds for the families of the 19 firemen killed in the recent fire in Arizona. The softball team will sell baked goods from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Harley Davidson dealership during a car and bike show cruise.

 

Fleet Feet Beginner Runner Program starting

Fleet Feet Sports in Schererville is offering its No Boundaries Beginner Runner Program starting Aug. 24 in Schererville and Aug. 27 in Chesterton. The 10-week training will culminate with the participation in the Fall Frolic 4-mile race at Purdue University Calumet. Grand Prix of Tennis slates events

MERRILLVILLE | The Northwest Indiana Grand Prix of Tennis will consist of five junior and adult tournaments this summer and fall. Divisions include boys 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; girls 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; men's singles; men's 45 singles; women's singles; boys doubles; girls doubles; men's doubles; women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Tourney dates are the Northwest Indiana Summer Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday at a site to be determined, the Whiting Open on Sept. 21 and 22 at Piatek Tennis Courts and the Grand Prix Finals on Oct. 12 and 13 at a site do be determined.

At each tourney, five points will be awarded for every match won, 20 points for winning a final, 10 points for losing a final and five points for losing a semifinal. The top eight point winners in each division will qualify for the Grand Prix Finals.

VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso University softball program will hold one individual and two team camps.

The fall experience camp, open to athletes in grades nine to 12, will be Sept. 15 on campus. It is designed to allow participants to experience a day in the life of a Valpo softball player. Campers will get a T-shirt and lunch, and will have the opportunity to play two games. Cost is $130.

The 18-and-under/16U and 14U/12U team camps will be held at Imagination Glen Park in Portage on Sept. 7 and 8 and Oct. 19 and 20, respectively. Teams are guaranteed at least four games. A college coach or player will be available to help instruct during two of each team's games, while college coaches will be invited to the 18U/16U camp. The cost of each of the team camps is $475 per team.
