Wolves win opener; Steelers and Red Devils lose

The Michigan City Wolves Junior Pee Wee team defeated the Bedford Junior Bulldogs (N.H.) 38-6 during the first round of the Division II national competition Saturday at the Pop Warner Super Bowl at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

The Wolves will take on the Manoa Panioles (Hawaii) in the semifinals at 8:30 a.m. today.

The Southlake Red Devils Pee Wee team lost the Gilbert/Chandler Spurs (Ariz.) 14-6 during the first round of the Division II national competition. The Red Devils will play the Evergreen Bulldogs (Wash.) at 10:30 a.m. today in a consolation game.

The Gary Steelers Junior Midget team lost to the West Volusia Wolves (Fla.) 20-16 during the first round of the Division II national competition. The Steelers will play the Redondo Beach Seahawks (Calif.) at 1:15 p.m. today in a consolation game.

 

Gymnastics Fun Day Saturday

VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso High School gymnastics team will host a Fun Day from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in Viking Gym. Children aged 5 and older will receive gymnastics instruction and take part in games, contests and other activities. Cost is $12 until Monday, $15 after. Middle school girls hoops camp Dec. 12-13

PORTAGE | A middle school girls basketball "Tip Off" camp will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13 at Fegely. The free event is for Portage students.

 

Youth coed volleyball registration under way

VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Parks Department is starting a coed youth volleyball league. Registration runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 21 at the Valpo Parks Office. The league, to be conducted at the Boys and Girls Club of Valparaiso, is open to second- through fifth-graders. The season will run Jan. 7 through March 2. Games will begin Jan. 26. Practices will be held on Wednesdays or Thursdays with games on Saturdays. Cost is $55 for Valpo residents, $65 for nonresidents. The fee includes an annual Boys and Girls Club membership. Adult, junior golf classes available at Creekside

VALPARAISO | Creekside Golf Course and Training Center offers both adult and junior golf classes in December. Junior classes for children aged 3 to 18 will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays this month. Prices range from $15 to $30. For Ladies Only adult classes will run at 8 a.m. Mondays, afternoon clinics will be available at 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 3 p.m. Saturdays. Cost is $15 per class.
