Volleyball camp begins Wednesday

SOUTH HAVEN | Portage High School volleyball coach Brian Zofkie will conduct a camp Wednesday through Friday at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County -- South Haven Unit for children aged 6 to 13. The camp, which will run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., will teach the fundamentals of volleyball, including passing, bumping, serving, blocking and teamwork. A pizza party will be held at the end of the camp. Cost is $5 per participant. Register at the club, 723 Long Run Road, between 11:30 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. Participants must be a member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County. Grand Prix of Tennis slates events

MERRILLVILLE | The Northwest Indiana Grand Prix of Tennis will consist of five junior and adult tournaments this summer and fall. Divisions include boys 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; girls 18, 16, 14, 12 singles; men's singles; men's 45 singles; women's singles; boys doubles; girls doubles; men's doubles; women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Tourney dates are the Highland Open on Saturday and Sunday at Highland High School, the Northwest Indiana Summer Grand Prix on Aug. 17 and 18 at a site to be determined, the Whiting Open on Sept. 21 and 22 at Piatek Tennis Courts and the Grand Prix Finals on Oct. 12 and 13 at a site do be determined.

At each tourney, five points will be awarded for every match won, 20 points for winning a final, 10 points for losing a final and five points for losing a semifinal. The top eight point winners in each division will qualify for the Grand Prix Finals.

Entry fee for each tourney is $10 per singles and doubles team, plus one unopened container of tennis balls. Containers will be sold on-site for $5 per can. Registration deadline is the Wednesday before each tourney. To register, go to www.tennis219.com.

 

Creekside golf sessions take place in July

VALPARAISO | Creekside Golf Course and Training Center will host adult and junior golf clinics this month. Fore Ladies Only Clinics will run from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays. The cost is $15 per session. Get Golf Ready Review Clinics will run from 8 to 10 a.m. Fridays. The cost is $30.

HEBRON | Hebron will hold its inaugural fan fest fundraiser July 27 at the high school field. The all-day baseball event will feature a 50-inning game involving varsity and junior varsity players, a futures game for Hebron Middle School players, a father-son wiffle ball game, an alumni game and a home run derby. Admission is $5 per family or a case of Gatorade/water. The home run derby and alumni game cost $10 and $20, respectively. The concession stand will be open all day.
