Portage baseball to hold skills camp
PORTAGE | The Portage High School baseball program will host an eight-week all-star skills camp in the fieldhouse. Sessions will be held today and Nov. 17, Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22, and Jan. 5 and 12 in the PHS fieldhouse. Players will receive one-on-one instruction on topics including grip, stance, swing, throwing mechanics and fielding from the high school coaching staff and varsity players. Youth coed volleyball registration under way
VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Parks Department is starting a coed youth volleyball league. Registration will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 21 at the Valpo Parks Office. The league, to be conducted at the Boys and Girls Club of Valparaiso, is open to second- through fifth-graders. The season will run Jan. 7 through March 2. Games will begin Jan. 26. Practices will be held on Wednesdays or Thursdays with games on Saturdays. Cost is $55 for Valpo residents, $65 for nonresidents. The fee includes an annual Boys and Girls Club membership. State umpiring indoor clinic at Fun Center Dome
CROWN POINT | An indoor National Babe Ruth Baseball Umpire Clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Crown Point Fun Center Dome, 1301 Merrillville Road.
