SOUTH HOLLAND | This is why they call it "volley" ball.

During the grade 5-6 championship match that pitted Burnham Elementary School against John L. Marsh, volleys often extended beyond 30 seconds before the winning point.

In the end, Burnham prevailed 25-21, 25-18, to claim its Seton Academy Grade School Volleyball League Tournament division title, May 4 at SA High School.

Burnham and Marsh also finished one-two, respectively, in the league's final regular-season standings.

Earlier that day, Our Lady of Guadalupe defeated Marsh for the grade 7-8 tournament division title. OLG led its division in final regular-season standings; Marsh was second.

The final weekend of the league's fourth season kicked off that Friday with annual all-star matches for both divisions. Courtney Pugh, of St. Agnes, was honored for being named an all-star in all four seasons.

The following Saturday during the league's version of "Senior Night", Alejandra Zuniga, of Our Lady of Guadalupe, was named the league's Most Valuable Player. She was cited not only for her athletic ability, but for her outstanding sportsmanship and leadership.
